funky power with Stage-1...
Coming from an S2000 (I still own) VTec 'activated' around 6000 rpms, and there was a 'kick' when it activated of power.
The stage-1 with my current flash (not L, but I don't know what it is), has what appears to be 2 of these kicks of power..
However, its actually distracting.. I get more power 5000-6500, then a dip for about 300 rpms, then another 'dip' in power from 7500-7900 or so, then full power again.
Its kind of like 2 VTec's kicking in, but it almost feels like I'm letting off the throttle-- does the L-flash help with this? I'm sure I have the stage 1.1 which is probably tuned for the L-flash.
Also, should I turn the Stage-1 ECU mod OFF when getting the upgrade to the L-ECU flash, or is it okay to leave it on?
thanks,
Aaron

the power drops/kicks are due to different intake tract valves opening and the airflow destabilizing for a second. there's really no way around it. the L flash does little to correct this, as it's not a design flaw. you can verify this on a dyno sheet.
if i were you i'd remove the unit all together if it was at the dealer. if they spot it, consider your warranty shot.

I thought dealer flashing was done via an OBD port inside the passenger compartment? If so why would they need/want to open up the ECU box?

It is, but if for some reason there is problem, the tech may open up the ecu box to do a visual inspection. It's just not worth having your warranty voided over a removal process that takes 15-20 minutes.

they make security torx bolts that require a special kind of bit to open.
but that might make it look suspicious, and then theyre bound to find a way to get it open, and/or look for it through software.
just take it out. you dont have to put all that other crap back in there. takes 10 minutes.

You guys don't know mechanics very well, do you? He will drill/cut his way in, even if he doesn't have to! Heck (can I say that - will the FCC fine me , one of them cut the clips off Maurice's PCM box just because he couldn't figure out how to release them!
