last I heard the IntX causes a CEL, so that would be a no-go FI or NA

I think scott is working on the issue right now.

Im not sure about NJ but NYC they have to plug into your computer to read data. If you have a CEL you'll instantly fail.

A properly tuned EMU will pass emissions.
The Int-X (or ANY stand-alone fuel/ignition computer) will not pass emissions because the PCM is sneaky and looks for all kinds of things above and beyond proper A/F and timing. If it can't create harmony between the injectors and the WBO2S (which it can't if they are severed, as would be the case with a stand-alone fuel/spark computer like the Int-X), it will throw a code.

Resetting the PCM won't help you either since the reset is obvious to the emissions testing computer and you will fail because of it.

Benny: what state are you in? if it's the Big Blue one on the left...you're hosed.
Not only that: as far as I know, the Int-X always has a CEL on, doesn't it?

aka: you'll fail the visual inspection

ben you won't get through NJ with the CEL lit (aka intersepter)

Swap it for a EM ultimate (the black one)

It also depends on the # of required drive cycles for testing. Keeping it off for several cycles can be achived through tuning, customers have reported doing it. Actually I remember discussing it with Jeff (MM) and he had it off for I believe 16 drive cycles. Scott

Chrome, not black.

Its, unfortunately, not a "swap" - you will have to do some tuning and the installation is different.
The end result, however, is a car that runs pretty much like stock.

True. If you can get the tuning nailed and the atmospheric conditions don't change, you might be able to go quite a while without a CEL, which will get you through emissions.
The other option is to take it out and drive the car very carefully out of boost for a few days then go for the emissions test.
I did get 16+ drive cycles out of mine without the CEL. It was the weather changes (and altitude changes) that would change the tune and trip the CEL.

The Greddy Profec E-01 has a O2 voltage clamp feature, but can only clamp one analog signal. I'm not sure how the RX-8 calculates for rich conditions with the O2before and O2 sensor after the cat. Is it analog or pulse?

Here's a Mazda Protege forum link about it http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showt...hp?t=123668912

Which isn't really that difficult.
Going through the necessary drive cycles, may prove to be a pain though.

True, no more than about 30 minutes out and back in and I believe 3 drive cycles.

I might pull the int-x, pop the spring on my WG, run 100 octane for a few days and throw the stock cat back on. Should do the trick nicely. If not, there are other ways around it.

so if you get the int-x and you get called in for emissions. you can simply pull it out, drive around a while, and then go in?

what happens to the turbo?

Turbo isn't the problem.....It will be the upgraded injectors.....I think I'll have to swap back the stock ones, remove the Int X...and block open the wastegate, and re-install the CAT

And then drive carefully for a few days

Or you can just use the EMU instead.

so, please explain this carefully to me. <- newb.

i understand emu stands for engine management unit. and i assume this does not refer to a stand alone like the int-x. right?

so, what you are saying is..

pull the int-x, using the standard emu, which will do a lot of stuff and make the car perform like stock?

ok. if thats the case, what does the turbo do? its still connected to everything, so its going to spool up up and create pressure, right?

:S

EMU = E-Manage Ultimate, by GReddy.
Its an alternative to the Int-X that can be tuned to pass emissions and still provide maximum power.
