Cobb issue!!!!
so i got my accessport from mazdamaniac with the tune files. did the hole setup with the new versions of the firmware and uploaded the base file for the 2004 rx8 forced induction. and the car will not hold idle and it backfires even at that. has anyone had this issue with the base tune? it sucks for me because its the only car that i drive, so now im on the bus. i emailed Jeff and he replied with "follow the instructions" that was very helpfull after doing all that was asked to do in the instructions down to the T. can anyone help.

Sounds like you're having a tuning issue.
How about a bit more information about the car?
You're running forced induction? What's your intake set-up?

i emailed mm and he repiled with follow instructions. what else can i do. ive checked over and over again everything that i did. i dont know how else to send him the logs that he needs for correct tune files when my car does not hold idle.

You didn't mention a turbo?? But you're running FI maps??
Does the engine run with stock ECU settings?

Well, it sounds like you've got some tuning to do with Jeff (he's really good but also really busy)
Meanwhile you can check everything over and look for any obvious issues.
I feel for your situation.

ive got the turbo fixed. the oil seals went bad on the turbo so got it rebuilt. The interceptor x that i had in their before no one in san diego could get a good tune on it. so i got the cobb from mm i did uninstall the cobb from my car and put the interceptor x back on but its hard to start with it and after warm up it dies out. with the mm base fi file it starts and holds idle and smells of crazy fuel fumes and when you hit the gas pedal it will not hold idle after. so im screwed in that sense, but i got a hold of a dyno tune shop out in the kearny mesa area and im going to have them tune it tomorrow morning. so one more night without a car i guess will not kill me. im out 100.00 from mm but it is what it is i did not know that it would not hold idle. thanks guys for all your input hopefully everything goes well tomorrow. i will leave a update after the tune.

You should be able to drive around just fine without the interceptor and a stock map. Just dont go into boost. If not then there is something wrong with your car.

I zoom therefore I am.
the cheaper the used rx8's get, the more threads like this are going to appear. The upside is that "barely used" greddy kits are going to be super cheap.

Ive owned my car since new in 2004 with all the the goods nav stock body kit and all. ive dumped a lot of money in my car full suspension even before the turbo i did everything n/a headers intake racing beat reflash you name it. i dont care about spending money. 100.00 dollars is nothing but the thing that i cant afford is time without my car, since i have a little boy that i have to drive around to daycar and all. rotary is very high maint car if you dont spend it will not last. aftermarket add ons is extra stuff that thank god i dont have any issue spending money on.

Spending money on the RX8 and throwing money away on the RX8 are different. The fact that you signed up for a process you knew would take at least 6 months to complete, with possible bumps along the way, and then jumpped ship on day 1 with a minor issue shows just how far off your mindset really is. The fact that you started this thread saying that there was an issue with the AP when in fact there is no issue shows that you want instant gratification even more. So instead of working with Jeff over the 6+ months you decided to go throw a couple hundred dollars at another tuner, who I will guess is going to have just as bad of luck with getting your tune right as you had with the base map. You admitted to doing everything under the sun for modding your car, including already messing with the ECU. Do you think that something like that mod could have any impact on what MM is trying to do with the base map? Could it be responsible for the problems you are seeing? Did you disclose absolutely everything you did to your engine to Jeff when you got your AP? Do you really want to risk your engine on this dyno shop or work with someone that has millions of RX8 tunes under his belt?

A tune takes 6ish months to complete normally...I would say you would push longer because of all of your mods. Getting a base tune out of Jeff so your car idles normally on a base tune should probably take a couple weeks...during which you just run your interceptor X map...or stock map...whichever safely keeps your car running.

After removing the interceptor x from the car and puting it back on it turns off after warm up. so im stuck their. i will have to wait for a dyno tune or a mm file i guess the shop in san diego is garage gt but they cant do it for a couple days. so now i wait. thanks for the feed back tho.
