Cobb AP question.

I just did the install on my car for my AP. During step 6 it says to drive the car to get it to operation temperature for a few minutes. It didnt say to data log anything, is there anything I was supposed to do (other than drive it)?

Thanks.

I assume you are referencing MazdaManiac's procedure.

It also says in step #6:
Allow your RX-8 to cool for at least 8 hours and repeat this drive cycle again, allowing the engine to cool completely before proceeding.
The next procedure is for data logging.
Read Jeff's first post thoroughly (again, assuming you are going off of his procedure):

Yes, I am referring to MazdaManiac's list. But during the first drive cycle, was I supposed to data log anything or just drive it?

Does it tell you to log anything?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but you should let the car idle to get to normal operating temp before you drive the car around, to give the ECU a chance to get used to the new map.

I usually let it sit there for 20 min the first time. When I don't on maps V4_0_1 or higher my car will stall while I'm driving around and will not idle on restart unless I reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery.

After your first drive cycle, let the car sit for at least 8 hours and do the same thing again. You need at least two drive cycles before your car will be ready to log.

You just answered your own question!

Just take his procedure step-by-step and you'll be fine.

Its good to let the car sit idle for a little bit (maybe a minute) after a new map, but not 20 minutes.
Your car still needs to run so the PCM can learn the fuel trims.
It can't learn just by sitting idle.

Just like any other time, allow the car to warm up before running it hard.
When I'm about to do do my log, I just start the car and drive.
The car is warmed-up enough by the time I reach the stretch of road I use to do my logs.

Definitely. I do the drive cycle after warming it up and don't need to idle for very long after the first time. But my car, and at least one other person I know have stalling issues if we don't let it idle after the first switch.

You're probably right though. 20 min is probably overkill, but I just want to be sure I don't stall again when driving.

^You sure that there isn't a hidden "problem" going on causing your stalling issues?
Have you changed your plugs lately?
I never have stalls after a new map install.

I thought the same thing and got my car checked to make sure.

Plugs are new. Everything checked out okay.

Did some searching and very few cars have this problem with the Accessport (including a few WRX's). I just have a slow learning ECU.

No worries though so long as I let it idle. Just sent my logs in for V4_0_3. My car has never run better. Almost scared to switch to a new map.

How's it working out for you?

Waiting for my 4.0.6 map now and have been satisfied.
I think I noticed a good performance difference after the 4.0.4 map.
My WOT appeared stronger (mainly after 4K rpm)

4.0.6? Damn. haha. You don't waste any time. That's awesome! Proabably the best $700 I spent so far. Just glad my car survived the Emangle Ultimate.
