I'm not a salesperson or spokesman for Adaptronic. 8 years ago I could've cared less about fuel maps, ECUs, maf/map, fi, etc.

Check out the adaptronic community on FB. Ask some hard questions there and see how folks respond.

While it may appear unproven for us there are quite a few serious race teams out there that love this thing.

Well I appreciate your honest feedback. Thanks again :)

Hi Shelldude and all from over here in England.

I am putting together an RX-8 race car with a bridge ported REW engine with a GT40 Turbo now installed but wish to keep all the DSC systems operating by using the Adaptronic that we now have, obviously keeping the stock ECU to make the dash etc working as well .

I am hoping that you may be able to help with finding out what stock wiring plugs we need to run an REW and what we don’t.

I believe to stop the stock ECU going into limp mode we may only need to have the following actually plugged in and operating

RX-8 Oil metering Pump

RX-8 Throttle body with wiring

Steering wiring

Oil pressure switch

Fan Switch

Fan wiring onto the stock fans

Crank angle sensor

Injector wiring leaving two secondary injector plugs off as we are running just two to power the 1680 injectors

Can anyone help with these questions please

Here’s a link to the build thread

Does anyone have any experience of the above please.

Slidin8 05-14-2013 03:27 AM

I suggest you do a search for threads where people have swapped RE's and REW's into their 8 and read.

You can PM them also, but do research first

Many thanks for the reply,

I have tried to search for info for a long time on here and elswhere but the difference with our project seems to be that we are keeping the stock ECU in place with the Adaptronic rather that just running an Apexi or something else for an ECU

We know the Adaptronic will operate the engine ok we just need to know what wiring plugs we can lose

clive 05-17-2013 05:43 PM

Bump, anyone:)

ShellDude 05-17-2013 06:46 PM

hey clive, sorry for not responding sooner. Have you tried contacting Andy @ Adaptronic? I'm still trying to wrap my head around how this could possibly work and keep coming up empty.

clive 05-18-2013 03:35 PM

Many thanks for this Shell, I will give Andy a go.

I do know that Elliot of Turblown has done this but he is not responding to mail

When we get this up n running I will post something up on this thread in reply to my own question as it may help others

ShellDude 05-18-2013 10:17 PM

I suspect Andy will be far more responsive. At the very least you'll peak his curiosity and from that you'll likely get a well thought out response.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. Its not getting the Select to talk to your RX8 ECU that stumps me... Its getting all the right data out of the engine and components to the Select and then back out to them from the OEM ECU.

Any updates?

Would it matter if i previously had maps uploaded from an AP and then installed the adaptronic? My AP screen is dead and i have no idea what map is loaded. Would i still be able to tune with the adaptronic?

9krpmrx8 11-01-2013 03:45 PM

You could, but really you need the AP to be working.

tofu_box 11-02-2013 04:35 AM

you can, the adaptronic basically overwrites everything other then a few misc items like OMP, idle and throttle and a few misc items i believe

It uses a MAP system and detects air through a hose connected to your intake manifold and works out formulas from there.

Only difference with a AP tune is that there will be changes like fan speed, omp, idle controls that would have been adjusted that the adaptronics could not originally control anyways.

Basically the adaptronics will overwrite everything in your AP tune that it *can* control, whilst rest will be your tune in the AP.

Hoped that helped

nuke0907 11-02-2013 10:19 AM

ok. So as far as the engine tune the Adaptronic will overwrite. The other stuff may have been changed in my Cobb tune but may not be ideal for the adaptronic tune. Being able to change the other stuff with the Cobb will be helpful. Hopefully I can find my Cobb and get the screen fixed without it costing too much.

So you already have the best tuning solution and you want to spend thousands on another one that is not quite as good ...........

not exactly.

ShellDude 11-03-2013 09:11 AM

and your notion of good is in the eye of the beholder. I certainly don't have any rich spots in my tune and I haven't touched it for a good 8 months... and the last time was to maximize cruise AFR as I was traveling 75 mph down the highway on my way to DGRR.

Yeah, definitely not as black and white as you think, Bret.

TeamRX8 11-03-2013 09:35 AM

To further answer Nuke's question, they recommend having another tuning option for idle control and even though the system is MAP based the MAF needs to remain for this purpose. They specifically mention MazdaEdit, likely since its universal, but for USDM owners theres no reason not to buy a lower cost used Cobb AP just to control idle, fans, etc.

In many ways the Adaptronic seems like the best choice overall due to its plug & play nature and MAP makes FI simpler, but it's odd if not questionable that they would leave off such minor yet important functions

.

Brettus 11-03-2013 01:22 PM

ok - lets see how this goes .
Will be watching Nukes' progress with interest .

Maybe I exaggerated ..............a little ............but :

$1600ECU + shipping + fitting + tuning = $ ???

ShellDude 11-03-2013 02:34 PM

a monkey could do the install and the thing practically tunes itself. there are definitely some oddities though that need to be taken into account for USDM... namely SSV and EVAP.

ShellDude 12-07-2013 08:52 AM

Here are a bunch of videos Andy posted recently that step you through setup and tuning.

I have eyed the Adaptronic for almost 2 years now. I don't necessarily *need* it at this point but the experimenter in me is intrigued. The major thing that has held me back is the association with elliot @ turdbrown.
