Accessport, sample tuning software

I tried downloading the accessport software from Cobbs' website, unfortunately I can't really view anything due to not having the unit. I am just curious to see if it is possible to see what the tuning software is like as I am determine to see if the unit is worth while since I prefer doing the tuning myself.

Anyone have a sample map and software that I can view?

Thanks

The software requires a unit for download (as you discovered) and also for installation so even the install file won't help.

The tuner is IMO the best on the market for the RX8 at the moment. The software is very powerful and robust. There are very few things that cannot be controlled and it also allows you to keep in place all the tuning elements that Mazda got right.

I'm not sure what other tuning options you are considering but the AP is a great buy.

Could you post a screenshot of the part that shows timing trim and fuel trim please (doesn't matter what map, I am just curious to see how to adjust and what you can adjust). I really want to see what the software can do before I take the plunge.

Thanks

I don't think there are other options anyway, so kind of stuck if i don't like it right?

This is a basic screen shot. Sorry for the lack of quality. You adjust target fuel values based on RPM vs. calculated load. Timing is done the same way. You have increments of 500 rpms. The left area shows the vast list of tables in the program.

The PCM has tons of resolution so fine tuning is very possible. The built in data logging and live monitoring crams 3 devices into one.

I'd check out some of the tuning threads for the COBB as there is more in depth information there.

I assume you change your fuel/timing by changing the excel table on the top? Other than the idle/knock/closed loop/open loop setup. Are there other things? I think cooling fan control and rev limiter and speed limiter right?

Thanks

Yes you alter values in the table itself.

There are controls for the fans, idle speed, rev limiter, cel masking, OMP injection and a lot more.

I believe there are over 60 tables that you can control.

If I get a unit from Mazdamaniac, could I try to tune a map myself or does it have to be done by Mazdamaniac themselves? I am having a tough time finding a user guide for the Accessport (I have done tuning on other ECUs). I just want to get more info, thanks

You are able to use the accessTUNER Race version of the software and tune the RX8 yourself. Mazdamaniac provides tunes for 6 months as part of buying the AP from him. However, those tunes are locked and cannot be edited or viewed.

So, you can either have him tune the car or tune it yourself.

Can I just order their unit and start a new map that is based on the stock one? Would the stock one be viewable as a baseline? I understand they want to protect what they have, I just want to see if I have the ability to create/modify my own by just buying the unit on their website.

The tuner file is great, Thanks guys

Couldn't I just download the stock map during the first link and use that or no? I thought Cobbs lock all their files?

Lastly, the reason to select between 04,05,06,07. Is it just for the purpose of getting the proper map or is there something that will make them not communicate?

Thanks

With the AP and a copy of the Race tuner software, you have a factory style base map of the mazda ecm.

You can screw with this map until you are blue in the face and blow your engine all to hell or make it so it will not even run.

You can get MM to tune your car and run his maps, and build your own maps and reflash the ECM with your map, the nsee how much difference there is between the two.

I would not play with anything serious until you have a firm understanding of the parameters that need to be adjusted.

I have changed the OMP maps, fan temps, RPM high set and raised the idle a bit.
For a true tune I will leave it in the hands of MazdaManiac.

I guess my question is. If I pull the original map off my car, can I actually modify that or is that locked to me too? Is the race tuner software part of the AP or do you have to purchase it separately? The info on the AP is very limited, I want to see what I can do to the software before I buy one. This is what I know so far

#1 MM and Cobb's maps are locked (that's fine)
#2 You can make adjustment to the maps if you have the software (I assume it comes with the unit). Can I pull the map off my own car as a base map?
#3 If I don't use the map by MM or others, can I actually use the AP with other RX-8s of different year as long as I uninstall them with the original car?

By the way, this is not about the maps. I am just more curious as to what can be done and how I can use it

1. the map from your car is stored on the accessport when you marry it to the vehicle.
2. the race tuner software is at this time free, you can download it to your computer.
3. there is a base map with the race tuner software, you mod that.
4. you can use the accessport on any mazda rx8 within the year range the accessport is set for, BUT,,, it has to be unmarried from each car before being used on another 8.

Thanks for the info.

So if I buy one for an 05, it most likely won't work for an 07 even if it is unmarried simply because the unit might be set for one year?

When the AP stores my original map, can I view and modify that or do I have to use the base map that comes with the software?

The accessport is only designed for a specific vehicle model. You can sell an AP for a 2005 RX8 and it will work in a 2007 RX8 as well.

The units are not year specific. They are only model specific. An RX8 AP will not work in a speed3 or speed6.

Thanks flash that is the point I was trying to make, didn't explain fully.

I was meaning if the AP is flashed with a 04 map it won't work on a 07 unless an 07 map is loaded.

No you cannot touch the factory base map from your car, this makes it idiot proof.

Say that you did get to mess with the factory map and screwed it up, and couldn't for some reason get it back to stock, you sir are Fucked!!

Oh that sucks, I was hoping to modify based on the factory map as that is the safest map of all. I track my car more than I drive it on the street, I have to be very conservative in every little adjustment.

Thanks guys
