I was wondering when someone was going to post this... Everyone is eagerly awaiting it's release.

This will definitely be a viable option for those who want max power without going FI. Cant wait to try it out on the track.

silly, we have to have a finished product before we have a group buy. Once again a due date comes and they run and hide! So depressing.

As I recall, the 350Z was slated before the RX-8, and that was supposed to be late 2007...

The following info was posted on CobbForums.com....

I apologize, I was in Japan for the past week and didn't get back in the office until yesterday.

Status update is as follows:
- AP currently supports Fed 2004-2007 RX-8 6MT only
- AP currently will come with mapping for non-turbo, bolt-on parts only. No FI.
- We want to do more testing with locals and then ship a few beta units to other parts of the country before a full national release
- TUNER software will NOT be released at the same time as the AP. It is in testing, but we don't have a scheduled release date for it.

So in summary, AccessPORTs capable of supporting a 2004-2007 RX-8 6MT will start getting into people's hands as a beta test before the end of this month. Once we're satisfied with the results of the beta, we'll make it an official release.

Next we're going to work on scheduling some RX-8 meet and greets in a few key locations around the country, particularly California, so we can test and demonstrate the AccessPORT in person and collect the last bits of data we need to support not only the 49-state Fed models but the California models as well.

Cheers,
Trey @ COBB
Forgot to mention the TPMS is not something we currently touch. It's NOT in the PCM (ECU) and furthermore since it's a government mandated requirement aimed at public safety, I don't think we want to take on the legal liability by doing so. I can appreciate the desire to turn it off, I know it annoys me as well, but as a business I don't think it would be wise to expose ourselves to a huge lawsuit for disabling something the government as mandated be installed on vehicles.

You can blame the Ford Explorer and the soccer moms that couldn't be bothered to check their tire pressure for that law.

A quick update for everyone. We have a little teaser video of the AccessPORT functioning on a RX-8. You can find it either on our site:
http://www.cobbforums.com/videos/RX-8teaser.mp4

Or YouTube it at:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJIaY6zEeuY

At this point, we're finalizing our tuning (mapping) to work optimally both at our altitude (4500 ft) but also at sea level. I'm going to begin contacting people who have volunteered to be a beta tester this week and there is a chance beta RX-8 AccessPORTs will be shipped either by the end of this week or beginning of next to the beta testers. Once we get enough feedback from the beta group, we'll release.

Additionally, we will releasing the AccessTUNER software for the RX-8 a bit earlier than we've been leading on. Several tuners have contacted us regarding this, and we'll be following up with them this week as well to get some beta software into their hands. Here's a quick 'n dirty screenshot of the tuning software. We stripped out several development tables that had engineering/cryptic names for this image. There are several hundred tables and parameters within the stock ECU so to display them all at once is a bit daunting for most tuners. Particularly when most aren't necessary to change for 99% of cars.

I know it's been a long time coming and we're a few weeks behind our target release date but I wanted to make sure you all were aware that we're nearly done. The AccessPORT is ready to go, we just need to make sure the mapping is working as expected under the many different conditions we'd expect it to and we'll release.

Cheers,
Trey @ COBB

Forgot to mention: initial installation time is only 6 minutes. That's the time it takes to read your stock ECU content, save it on the AccessPORT, and then upload the map you picked from the list shipped with the AccessPORT. Once installed, changing maps only takes a fraction of that time.

Initially we'll ship the AccessPORT with maps we refer to as:
Stage 1 - Stock cars, allowed mods include panel filter and catback exhaust
Stage 2 - Panel filter, catless/high flow cat pipes, catback

For Federal 91 octane, California/Nevada/Arizona 91, and 93 octane.

We're still testing various intakes but most skew the MAF signal in each their own, horrible horrible way that it's difficult to say which ones are OK for use with our mapping and which ones you'll need custom tuning for. Fortunately, you can easily adjust the MAF calibration with our tuning software so it's something that can easily be addressed by yourself or your local tuner.

We'll publish final dyno results once we get our finished results from sea level testing. Power at altitude is notably less due to thinner air.

Cheers,
Trey @ COBB

Sweet^ I dont feel like looking through the whole thread and it might be beneficial so that more people see it, but how much do you think it will cost and how much more power/smoother will it be over stock? sorry for the questions that are already previously mentioned, just dont have the time and i am very curious!

Cant wait for this. Finally tuning we can remove when taking the car to the dealer. Will this allow users to create their own custom maps?
