the both of us are really bad with directions.. not a bad idea. I'm sure she will still try to justify getting a cat before I can get away with $3000 for a nav system..

Too bad though, its not going to help much with a 2002 map :D

Oh sweet. I am sure I will have a few questions. I sent you a PM too.

Here are a few:
1. How many harnesses need to be replaced? Main dash harness, GPS harness along driver side door. Any other ones?
2. Do the evaporator or any other components need to be removed to get the dash our or replace the harness?

1- Well you only have 2 harnesses One that Goes all around the car all the way to the back and One that goes under the Dash, the GPS harness is within the harness that you will have to replace. Door panels don’t have to come Off Not even the ROOF part.

2- if you are talking about the BLOWER unite that you see in the Pix the whit thing sitting in the middle that dose not have to come off but the harnesses Do go Around it.
i just Slipped the harnesses behind that thing

Well it would only get voided if the problem was caused by the navi.....

What type of connection does the DVD drive use? Serial ATA or is it something proprietary? If getting rid of the NAV, is it possible to just hook up a regular DVD-ROM, or do you need the whole converter thing that mazda parts sells?

i could answer the question but the entire concept of how the nav works is radically different from the line of questioning you are asking

it won't cause problems...it is only drawing data from the PCM/ECU not entering data

it is running a lot like a Scan tool but even less so since it can't reset DTC codes

Removing Navi

I am removing the factory navi system from my rx8.

Also were there any other tracking devices on the rx8 or will removing the factory navi system be good enough so they cant track my speed and other info esp. my location.?Don't want to void my warranty if they found out i was at a race track with the car..

Thanks

Umm.. there is no way to "track" you via the nav system unless you enable the "bread crumb" tracking yourself (shows dots of where you have driven).

Remember, GPS is "recieve only", contrary to what CSI shows you on TV.

Good point...I think alot of the confusion comes in because of the OnStar system which can track you

(in fact there was a major legal case determining whether or not the FBI could use OnStar in vehicle to secrectly track someone...it was determined that if the vehicle being tracked has not Activated the OnStar system the FBI could activate it secretly for tracking...if they have activated the service the FBI cannot use it as it would interfere with the service).

I have heard there are tracking devices on some cars so if it gets stolen the cops can track the car? Is this true? And could the dealership do it through The Navi?my Friend's mom leased a slk before and pressed the panic button.a little later his mom called him and said" what's wrong with the car?!!!What are you doing on XXXXX Street!!!"They knew exactly where the car was and sent someone to go check on the car!!That sounds crazy.

Thats an onstar system. There is a GPS receiver in the car, when the "panic" button is pressed, it makes a telephone call to the call center, included with that call are some car diagnostics and the GPS coordinates.

Unless you have modifed your RX-8, there is no such thing in your RX-8.

It's better than that, you should be able to get navi for $1700.
