Just nice to know, in case it was some wack size I for some reason didn't have so I'd be able to pick one up from work instead of running back into town after having my steering wheel apart only to realize I don't have the proper size. But thank you for the response, cheers :D
Just an FYI
If you try to do this, and need to pull the wheel, some pulling kits won't come with metric bolts. I just did it today, and it was a PITA. Having gone to Home Depot and bought new bolts, I wanted others to know. m8 1.25 x 90mm. With the right tools, it can be done. Without them, you will curse the day you ever bought the thing.

Most chain parts stores will rent a puller with both SAE and metric.

If I made my living with these tools, I'd have probably bought some more expensive name brand. But it's pretty inexpensive and I've probably used it a dozen times or more on my cars and others.

I'm putting my A/T steering wheel back on with the MT buttons. The wheel I got from RR (off eBay) has the leather separating around the 10 o'clock seam. I had asked the shop to do the swap when they had it for 6 months but they just slapped the MT wheel on.

Get a fingernail or the end of a flathead screwdriver into the back of the connector. It has a retaining clip, you get that loose (loose, not off) and the orange and yellow things will pull clean off the back
so the yellow one came right off without messing with the retaining clip... i figured it out after looking at some pictures online that don't show the clip at all.
The orange one is being a little more difficult... armed with a little flathead now.

guys, sorry to revive this for so long. I just got the autoexe wheel and trying to install it. Mazda installed a wire clip on the left screw hole beside the nut. I can't take this clip off, so I can only use one side of the free thread hole to use a steering wheel puller (wheel won't come off)... will it still work with one side only?

And since you have already seen your 8 without the steering wheel, perhaps you could help me out with this question. I would like to know if the OEM steering wheel can be removed and repositioned on the shaft. I recently have had to drop the subframe and disconnect the steering shaft. I thought I was being careful but when I assembled everything back together, I noticed my steering wheel sits about five degrees off-center with the front wheels straight ahead. It hasn't had any negative effects on drivability. However, I am a little OCD and it does bother me. Rather than going through that process again to correct it, could I simply remove the steering wheel and position it to line up straight? Or can the steering wheel only be fitted a precise way on the shaft?

Hey there, I found myself in the same position trying to adjust the position of my steering wheel in relation to where the wheel were actually pointing, and simply you just move your wheels to the straight position, take off your steering wheel (in whichever orientation it ends up being, then twist the clock spring until the two arrow heads match up, and then push the steering wheel back into the dash.
I know its like 4 years late, but this post is the first hit on google regarding how to change what orientation the steering wheel is in so may benefit others hah!

If you are installing the same steering wheel back, it's a good practice to leave a mark where the wheel and the shaft connect to help you align them when you reinstall them.
If you are installing another steering wheel, you may need an alignment since the teeth inside the wheels aren't the same.
