If your taking off your orignal steering wheel you don't need the special tool, it just slides right off

Umm, no. Unless something is wrong, you are going to need a steering wheel removal tool. The steering wheel is pressed on to the tapered shaft by the bolt that holds in on. I have taken mine off twice. once to replace the steering wheel and once to fix my mistake. I purchased a pulley removal set from harbour freight for about $10.

It will not want to come off at first, so you will have to turn the tool harder until you hear a laud pop. Your heart will skipa few beats because you will think you broke your car. You will then remove the tool and find everything is just fine.

lepichichi.

Can't really help, but did you call around to autoparts stores? Around here, several have a loan-a-tool programs where they'll loan specialized tools for free (just a deposit).

Good luck.

I put a MOMO steering wheel in my car and a friend took his steering wheel off. Two different RX8 and none needed a steering wheel removing tool. Just try it and remember to disconnect your battery, and make sure the steering wheel is not in the locked posistion.

I dont know why your just came off. I installed a black/red mazda steering wheel and it came with the directions that explained you must use the steering wheel removal tool. Also dont hit the shaft with a hammer.

have removed about 6 of them. They slide of with a little force. no tools necessary. Give it a good whack in each corner then pull

Trust me. You'll need it.

Make sure the wheels is as straight as possible or you'll have a really fun time adjusting it later.

Make sure you disconnect the battery and let it discharge for 30 minutes.

Be careful of the rubber band. It's there for a reason.

BTW: You can rent tools at Advance Auto and Autozone for free.
