Yup - very bad idea to run all three to the catch can .

04 Green : Why did you do that ?

Well.....he said "to prevent a bad check valve from filling the intake with oil", not that I subscribe to this particular line of reasoning.

Hell, I don't even know if there is a check valve in any of those lines......I've never researched it.

Well - there are check valves on the omp injectors so ...

But both the jet air and OMP lines suck air into the engine (which needs to be metered ) so effectively 2 vac leaks .

The reason was a couple of threads that looked like bad check valves filling intake with oil. If the valve on the block other than the injectors goes bad, it will pump in oil. I do think the injector valves would cause a problem. Too little oil coming that up that path. Right now, it is plumbed to the intake, I need a few feet of tube and it will be hooked back up.

Also, I had no idea that much air was going that direction. It was really a surprise.

I now I am going to sound like a nubb. But you said that 06 and newer was re routed to fix this issue but would it still be worth installing a catch can on an 06 or newer or would it have no benefit?

My understanding is that there would be no benefit. Your hose from the filler neck should not run over to the intake.

Just putting in my 2 cents, i work as a Tech at a Mazda dealer and we had a few 8's come thru the shop with oil in the intake and filter, and after a 1-2hrs of diag. we found that the front rotor had a bad apex seal (not completely blown) that was allowing oil to back feed up thru the intake. don't see it to often but it can be a possibility and depending on the weather your not going to notice any performance changes until the outside temp starts to rise, majority of the motors we do on 8's happen around the time the weather starts to break.

Read through, didnt see it on this thread, but on another one. i have an 07, and my oil line on the filler neck goes to the 2 nipples on the lower intake manifold. (it has a white line on the hose) On my mazdaspeed intake, it has all black line, blue line and i think yellow.

Oil going to my SSV from oil filler neck = bad doesnt it?

nvm i found another link that gives more in detail.

With the 06+ they've relocated it further down into the maintenance ports. The problem is still there, just won't be as noticeable. A catch can is still definitely a benefit.

quick question. does it matter if the top of the can (where the 2 nipples are) is angled down? or do the nipples have to be at an pright posistion to allow proper flow from the oil filler neck? (the hose running from the neck to the can is sloped downwards)

^ post a pic. It depends on how much of an angle. Ideally though, you'll want it it to be in an upright position as not to impede flow.

^ mounting it upside down defeats the purpose of a catch can. You want the oil to drain from the top of the can to the bottom. The way you have it in the pic, oil will blow right out the breathing hole lol. There is enough room to mount it by the brake master cylinder, BUT you would have to fabricate a mounting bracket.

If you don't want any mounting issues, I'd just get the Weapon-R catch can. It's custom made to fit the RX8, and mounts right in front of the windshield washer fluid bottle.
