Thanks for your response, still no luck with the skins. Are you running the newest dash command or dash command lite?

Thanks phil. I will try to be as detailed as possible.

I ask all people who have experience with carpc to help me make this thread as detailed and accurate as posible.

I suggest that people can write a little bit and then post it here and i can incorporate it in the main thread.

I'm definitely bookmarking this thread. Having a car PC instead of that useless, outdated nav would be amazing. My car knowledge is very limited though (can do my brakes and my starter, but that's it so far), but my computer knowledge is good (can build desktops), but I have no electronics knowledge whatsover in terms of wiring. I need to find someone that I can hire to do this for me :D

If you can replace a car stereo and run speakers (and have computer build exp) you can do a carpc setup. The project typically takes 3-6 months.

3-6 months? Mine in my civic took less than 2 full days.

absent a double din setup with something like the metra adapter you're looking at a good month or two just to source a decent mount for your lcd. the jdm retractable nav is 4-6 weeks out from japanparts, as is the "static" one ... which I'm pretty sure you can only get from them.

If you already have the stock nav system then sure, you're time's cut down a smidge too, but it's going to take a couple evenings of research, then soldering, testing, routing, cutting, disassembling, reassembling, etc, etc, etc to get it straightened out.

If you're set on the motorized nav setup then it'll certainly take you some time to find one, either here or on ebay, that is priced reasonably.

Now that you've got that worked out, you're going to need to work on steering controls integration. If you went the metra route you're going to need to get really creative (there are solutions out there). Assuming you go with the grom car2pc adapter, good luck getting their plugin to work out of the box... I ended up writing my own library and frontend.

So yeah, to do it right... 3 to 6 months easy... Hell, I've had my carpc for about 1.5 years now and have swapped out motherboards twice, cases once, and am in the process of converting from the jdm retractable nav to the stock nav housing.

it's not like we've got vtec here, yo.

Is there any other metra interface alternative to get the climate controls to work without a headunit? I wanna replace the stock headunit with just a screen running to the computer in the back

You are not running the audio signal cables anywhere near the power cables, right?
If you are interested in this tidbit it may solve noise issues. When you hooked up your main 12v wire to your power supply did you hook it up straight to the battery or from an existing 12 v constant already in the car? if you hooked it to an existing wire then it may just be alternator noise you are hearing running through your computer board. To remedy this just run straight from battery for your 12v + as for ground the ground to your power supply should be well enough as desktop cases are ground to 120v ac for surge purpose only. If you are hooked to battery 12v+ and grounded to body cleanly still get noise try coating your signal cables from the main connection to the amp/head unit/ whatever interface for sound you are using with aluminium foil or heat shielding sold at most auto parts supply for covering plug wires near headers. if it still has noise you may have an issue with your cars main wiring harness as it runs through your dash. For that you would have to move the pc under the seat or to the trunk.
