I like this write up, im looking into building a car pc for my own car. I got most of it down the only problem i have is the electrical stuff. If you could provide some information of what kind of cable and fuse box you used for the psu to connect to the battery (also where you ran it?) and also how and where did you hook up the car speakers to the pc. Another question i have is i live in houston and it tends to get to 100 degrees F so i dont think the pc might survive in the trunk. Any ideas?

How can psu run without grounding this is really strange for me.

2. I connected my speakers with my ipod and there was no distortion.

3. I connected my mobo with a headphones and again there was no distortion.

I will try to find a good ground loop isolator here and see where things go from there.
I got exactly the same problem. I found out that if get the power supply for ur computer with the ac converter with noise filter everything would be fine. Just a little noise at max volume. Hope it help.

Cool CARPC or CARPUTER Do it Yourself Guide

Building a carputer the most difficult, expensive and rewarding do-it-yourself (DIY) projects I have ever completed. If you own a car manufactured in the last 20 years, the chances are it has a specialized computer inside - the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is a computer which originally only controlled fuel injection. In today’s cars, the ECU is responsible for more than just controlling the powertrain. Many standard features of cars produced today are monitored by the ECU, including emissions control, fuel saving, airbags, ABS braking systems, climate control, and many more. In a few short weeks I’ve found it to be the best investment I have made in my car. On the surface, the idea is simple, just take a computer put it in the car. In reality, it is several times more difficult than installing a car alarm or replacing a factory head unit with an aftermarket radio. Before you start, you need to ask yourself six quest

GPS Receiver

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect the stock GPS receiver to a Car Computer? I've got everything now and am almost ready to install. Bench tests are complete, now I just have to take it all apart... yeah... lol

No. Even if it is possible, it is not worth it.

sorry, found my question and answer from earlier in the thread, guess that's what happens when you get old and forget **** - lol.

Another cheasy question, is there a PIE module for hooking up to TAPE\MD button on head unit? I search and all I find is info on how to mod and solder a tape deck mod and I'd prefer not to go that route. Was hoping for a simple PIE type connector that I can just link into the back of the head unit and then run the audio from the CarPC to. I start the install this weekend.

Cheers,
David

As nowadays we mostly use my wife's car for our commute to and from office (as i don't let her drive my beloved rx8) so I am going for a second carpc yayyy!!!!. The car is called toyota yaris, it is a hatchback and here is a photo of the car

So can somebody suggest a good speaker set which i can install in this car. I cannot install a subwoffer (as obviously this is my wife's car) so i am looking for excellent speaker set that is under 200 dollars and can deliver the whole low, mid and high range sound.

Thanks

Some of you guys were looking for thse. Hussain finally bugged me enough to get these off the CarPC I bought from alz.

Sorry it took so long...super busy and haven't had any time to screw with the CarPC lately.

If there should be another one that's not here, let me know and I'll go digging for it.

Thanks,

Derek

Okay. So I am getting FM interference when my carPC is on. and only when it is on. I ordered a Ground loop isolator, played with grounding spots. Hopefully the GLI fixes it, maybe going to get some ferrite beads, but has anyone else had the issue of the factory HU getting awful radio reception when the PC is on?

Hey, kudos on the write up. I have a couple of questions.

How did you run the live from the battery into the cabin?
How do I get these skins to work in dash command, are they loaded individually?

I ran my pc power from the battery, thru the firewall, under the center console to the back of the car.

The skins get loaded thru a DC utility.
