Aftermarket Ignition leads onto stock coils shouldn't effect the coils as your only transferring the existing spark plug voltage through a lower restistance set of leads.

If you attach the popular HKS-twin power ignition amplifier then the increased primary voltage that results in a vastly higher secondary (output) voltage means greater current flow through the coils & additional heat. heat that the tiny coils have trouble dissapating.

Remote mounting, heat sinking, ducted air across them & that may get some reliability from them.

Autozone must have "magic" coils. They want 88.95 EACH!...and yes...I emailed them to confirm that was "each" and not for all 4.

Hi, I bought RX-8 two months back and the CEL light was on display. Since I live in Pakistan there are no mazda dealers here and because there are few mazda's here I didn't had any choice and I had to take it to one and only garage.

The guy over there said that two coils are not working (coil B & D) so I chaged them. After a week I went to the track and later on that day I discovered that its showing CEL light again. I went to the garage and again two other coils were burnt but this time (coil A & C). I replaced them too and now i had all four new coils.

I've done only like 150 miles on them and yesterday it showed the CEL light again and I am quite sure that its the same coil issue.

I don't know what is wrong with the coil or is it some electrical problem with my car which is causing my coils to burn again and again
I'm using N3H1-18-100B coil and I have 03 RX-8
I've already spent like 650 $ only on coils.....please help

I agree, I need to replace mine and the freaking Mazda dealer told me that will be $321.96 for the spark plugs and $465.00 for the coils plus $195.00 for engine decarb and $129.95 for the throttle body cleaning. So in total is $1,111.91 without tax.

I told them "you better put a gun in my head if you want to assault me". So I took my car back and now looking for doing myself. So any suggestion will be appreciate.

If you clean off the plate & drill holes in it, then circulating air around the engine bay will assist in cooling this plate further.

The Series-II (08-10) had a minor solution where Mazda made a track along the plate to create an air gap allowing the circulating air to run down the plate & assist in cooling.

Either method reaps the same results. The cooler the coils, the longer they last.
