That is up to you. They are located behind the bell inside the box. The bell is held in place by 3 screws. The one at the exit of the box is easier to get at, but the one in the bell is considered the preferred one to remove. Suggestions on how to best get this screen out are in this thread.
All done everything went good I guess i rest the ecu but the other rest with pumping the brake 20 times I can't get that to work. I'm going to take it out in a bit. But I'm still running the stock air filter not a k and n is that ok? Every place around here didn't have any in stock.
finally got it out w/ the knife and flat head after awhile. ended up yanking it out and broke 2 tabs
fortunately it was a clean break and i was able to just krazy glue em back together. reset the ecu w/ the brake pump/odometer and took it out for a 15 min drive. checked the horn again to see if the tabs fell out, and it was still intact. the sound is noticeable, just need to pick up a k&n drop-in air filter now.

Between the two panels was the "horn" and it has a screen inside of it. There is another screen between the horn and the MAF sensor. The screens are used to "smooth out the airflow" on the way to the MAF sensor.
oh..okay i see thanks!! and just to clear things up; dose removing any of that provide any type of significant changes at all? because i would love to avoid doing anything unnecessary that could harm my baby in any way! lols. Thanks again.
great threads never die! I did this mod over a year ago.. pulled the walls/flaps and the forward screen.
While I considered pulling the second screen I couldn't help but think that there's an engineer in japan out there that spent the better part of a year measuring the effeciency of airflow over the maf with and without the screen(s) in place.
And then there was the thought of a squirrel or mouse making its way into my intake.
Needless to say, the back screen stayed in. :D

Just wanted to put my 2 cents in... Bought my 6mt with 50k miles. Was getting 180 to the tank with new coils in and semi-aggressive driving. Removed Vfad, gutted cat, both airbox walls and the first screen and a drop in k & n. Now averaging 220 to the tank. I can def recommend this quick and simple mod. Didn't experience a problem and never reset the ecu... Just something to keep in mind ( =

I don't know about the filter, but there are a couple of us that are running the RB Duct. I cut up the VFAD to make a better seal from the duct to the air cleaner box. I cut the VFAD just at the edge of the foam and use the foam to help seal it up.

Speedsource uses OEM air filters on their race cars. I saw them in their garage at Daytona. If you want a lower restriction filter, you can get a K&N or Green filter.
i understand how taking out the walls of the airbox increases flow, but taking out the screens will also help or is it such a little gain that it doesnt matter if the screens are in or out? And come some one explain to me please the process of cleaning the maf sensor, because i heard that might be the problem with my low idleing. Pm me or w.e. thanks
