Question What do the Mazdaspeed engine accessories do?

They are listed in the new AutoWeek. What would be the benefits of adding:
-Lightweight flywheel
-Balanced eccentric rotor shaft
Would they be worth getting without changing exhaust. I absolutely love the stock exhaust note and wouldn't change.

the flywheel will make it rev up and down faster. good on the track, but cumbersome in everyday driving. im not sure what the rotor shaft would do, got a link to it?

The balanced eccentric shaft will make the engine smoother. The intent is to make it last longer when racing. When racing you tend to keep the engine up near redline most of the time.

Installation would require removal of the engine and disassembly. It would not be inexpensive!

The flywheel is awesome, not a problem for everyday at all... Installation of the flywheel and counter balance just requires transmission to be dropped; a 2 hour job. Dealer will do it for about 250.00-350.00, part is about 650-800 depending on where you buy... Revs very nice up and down, good for about 7-12HP at rear wheels...

mostly they reduce the amount of weight the engine is turning resulting in quicker revs

Has anyone installed the flywheel themselves? If so, how long did it take.

If not, how much did the work cost?

I am under the impression you have to drop the tranny out. I was wondering if it was worth it to do the work myself (eventually).
