Weapon R secret weapon intake?

Has anybody used this intake yet. It seems very new, I really like the look of it and was considering getting it, but I don't want to get one that will lose power. Also, I had an idea and was wondering if anybody has done this. I've read the reason many of the intakes on the rx8 lose power is because of excess heat. Would a heat shield similar to the one in the jim wolf technology popcharger for the 350z (http://www.jimwolftechnology.com/cus...asp?PartID=350) be a viable option to counter that? I'm sure fabricating something similar can't be too difficult.

Please dont just mod for the sake of modding. Your stock box is fine. Racing Beat and AEM/Mazdaspeed are good as well.

I know, I just really liked the look of the weapon R one. It would be more of a visual mod. I just don't want to lose performance with it.

Have you ever opened the hood with the engine running after a drive? That isn't going to do squat ....

Yeah, I did once. I was trying to check the oil because the light was coming on more often than usual (my sensor is retarded), and the heat in there combined with the position of the dipstick made it extremely hard to get to the dipstick. It was just a thought, Because I know it worked for the 350z's which I had before this.

Edit: Actually not with the engine running, just after I turned it off. I did one other time as well when I had to clean the power steering harness.

You will need an insulated enclosure for the filter, insulated MAF piping and then also an insulated shield to keep the radiator fan from directly blasting it

So basically, the consensus is that I would most likely lose power using this intake, and the single only purpose for it is eye candy?

Team, I just saw a post of yours in which you said you made a custom intake for your car. Do you think it would be possible to use this as a base for a custom intake, so that I could still get the look of it in the engine bay, while not losing any power? or will that be overly complicated?

Hey, if you want it, get it. You don't have to ask us if you don't want any criticism about it. Anyway, if you just wanted it for looks, then be it. More power to you then.

I'm on the fence still. I just don't want to sacrifice power for the sake of looks. If its a wash, I'm fine with it.

I have yet to see any Weapon R intakes make power. If you want to get an intake for a different car, and slap it on you RX-8, go for it. It can be made to work, if you really want it to. But if you want to actually make power, get one of the tested and proven intakes, and be done with it.

That made me LOL. Im not going to end up getting it then, Im not looking towards losing power, the neo-TI intake just looked very appealing to me.

Ive been thinking more and have decided to go with suspension instead. The more I read, the more I see intakes are way overpriced for the rx8, with minimal gains. I'm thinking of saving for the esmeril turbo instead. I could get 350whp, which would be at least a 150 whp gain for a little over $4000 instead of a 5whp gain if im lucky for 350. intake is $70 per hp roughly and turbo is about $26-35 per hp.

i hate all your preconceptions based off your 'buddy' who blew an engine.

i raced my rx8 on a greddy turbo for 30k and no loss of compression. its all about tune and supporting mods.

do any of these reputable engine builders have names? shops?

plumb the wastegate in the compression side, ceramic coating, oil restrictor.

oh and just so you know he ported the rx8 motor along time ago before any one started asking about porting on here and if it's possible
Call me crazy but pretty sure our first tagged porting thread dates back to 2003 ... which is right when the car was released ... congrats to your buddy being the guy on day 1 that said the word "porting" just so he can get a guy like you running around tugging on his nuts.

Also, all of your posts are referring to RX7 and Cosmo rotary builds ... sounds to me like you have 0 experience with the renesis, and sounds to me like you are relying a bit heavily on heresay from your buddies ... take 10 mins and research why some turbo builds have failed here ... it has nothing to do with high revs

Lastly .. your last post .... you want to throw a set of coilovers on his boosted RX8 and call it a drift car? You have been spending too much time sitting on your thumb.

And "boi"? ... really? .... REALLY???
