Typhoon II improvements
Has anyone done modifications to the K&N typhoon II? I've been thinking about making some sort of enclosure (possibly fiberglass), for additional heat sheilding, and hopefully for some sound deadening. Or, anyone modified the air inlet area, or remove the fresh air ducts? Maybe add a duct system like the RB one?
I like the intake in terms of appearance and tone, but it is a little loud for me at anything over 1/2 throttle, even at low rpm. It's even triggering rattles in my steering wheel/airbag area and dash it gets so loud.
I realize about everyone would recommend the RB Revi & duct, but I got a good deal on the Typhoon II and am interested in making it better for not much $$.
Any shared experiences or advice is appreciated.

I have the version II and RB duct.
the Airbag rattle was a known issue, you can search the TSB, it applies to 04 but I found that my 05 has the same problem too. Too lazy to go fix it.
Dash I dont know.
Heat is not really an issue I assume, since as your car moves there will be no hot air can really get into the intake anyway.

About the only thing you can do is to just get creative. Make a shield, an enclosure, duct, etc, and see what happens. Some people have made heat shields. It is my personal opinion (others may disagree) that only a sealed box and not a shield has any benefit in the hot engine bay. A shield or enclosure will quiet it down. The better sealed off it is (as in shield vs fully enclosed) the quieter it will be. Heat shielding should be the primary concern. You want to keep all th heat out that you can. With the radiator fan blowing from underneath, this is pretty difficult. Everyone knows that I only like the RB intake but even it could benefit from several layers of insulation underneath it. Just get creative. You're not going to hurt performance at all.

The airbag area has already been insulated by the dealer, but with the increase noise and vibration from the typhoon II it has resurfaced, as has new rattles in the dash, but they are very random-don't happen all the time.
Did you notice any added performance (assume at higher speeds) with the addition or the RB duct? I realize the inlet doesn't aim directly at the typhoon filter.
Do you think that adding some sort of enclosure around the filter element would lower the volume? Or, increase air pressure enough to make a difference?
