So for you guys that have heard the exhaust in person. What is your honest opinion? Too loud? Ricey? Sounds good?...

Armaant 12-09-2005 04:10 PM

its loud but i love it...if i were to go on a long drive i would put in the silencers...and i consider rice when you put on a ridicously loud exhaust that doesnt give you any gains(please refer to the civic that pulls up next to you revving their engine for an example) and sounds bad...in this case 24-34hp and a louder and deeper sound =no rice.

Jabberwock 12-10-2005 12:27 AM

Can you guys tell us how much the cat back weighs?

Also, for others, how much the midpipe weighs.

rkostolni 12-10-2005 03:35 PM

Turbo XS let me borrow one of their exhausts, race pipe and cat back, for a few days to see if I like it. I picked it up today, hopefully will be installing it today or tomorrow. I'll try to take some sounds clips of what it sounds like with a turbo, and report back on the fitment.

Moostafa29 12-10-2005 06:14 PM

Hell yeah, keep us posted Ryan! Any chance of soundclips?

G8rboy 12-10-2005 06:30 PM

Any idea if the midpipe mates up to the Greddy SP2 catback without issue?

Thanks!

Ryan, definitely let us turbo'd dudes know your impressions. any chance of getting up to PF Supercars or another place for a dyno run? Would love to see the powers gains.

dd sends...

rkostolni 12-10-2005 10:48 PM

Ya I'm actually suppose to go back up to PFS for some more tuning since I fixed my boost leak and added a boost controller. I'll ask Ray what the base numbers are which should give an idea of how much extra the exhaust gives.

deam 12-10-2005 10:55 PM

it sounds beautiful! like the ssr supra 1000+ hp...

awesome! can't wait to hear how it sounds and see the dyno results.

Armaant 12-11-2005 03:20 AM

oh yea i'm supposed to be at PFS in about a week....i wont see any stock pulls but i will get a dyno of what the car is getting with the turboxs race pipe and exhaust...so comparing that to 171whp i'll post the dyno's....don't know how much good it will do considering it will be different days and different dyno's but i'll post anyway

reddragonmd 12-12-2005 02:03 PM

im willing to give up my car for however long you need it, if you still need someone. Im not reading through all of the other posts though.

Your too late. He's already got it on 3 NA cars and will have it on a turbo'd 8 soon.

Jabberwock 12-12-2005 09:00 PM

Can some one post how much this exhaust weighs? Is it lighter than stock?

swoope 12-12-2005 09:04 PM

stock exhaust is 39lbs. i think they said it was 25bs lighter than stock. that may be with now cat and with the midpipe.

beers

rkostolni 12-12-2005 10:15 PM

The exhaust is on. No problems with the fitment. Sounds good at idle, a little loud under part throttle, but not bad, might just need some getting used to. Going from a high flow cat and stock catback to the turbo xs exhaust seems to have leaned out my AFR alot. Scott's wideband was showing AFR in the 15's under very low boost ~2psi. So I didn't push it any harder till I get it retuned, which is Wed. After I get it back on Friday I'll post some sound clips.

The only possible complaint would be that the exhaust tips don't stick out very far, they are recessed more than stock. Some people may like the look though.

Keep us posted bro. That was my complaint in the turbo xs tip thread. Maybe if enough people speak out, they'll extend the tips further. I think that is the only thing that would keep me from getting that exhaust.

Thats believable. The stock cat is pretty heavy, and when comparing it to my RP supercat, it feels like stock is made of lead.

rkostolni 12-14-2005 03:22 PM

Another issue I've noticed is the exhaust piping at the connection to the muffler seems to hang really low.

turboxs_nathan 12-14-2005 03:27 PM

Does your look like this?

From looking at the picture, the exhaust system really can't be moved up too much or it will hit the cross member. The 3 inch pipe and flange take up quite a bit of space under the RX8. I guess we could look at going to a slip-fit muffler at some point, but I’ve always thought that was kind of ghetto.

Also, have you decided to keep it? I haven’t heard from you, so I’ve not charged your card yet.

Man this thread got long quick - quick question - is there a header in this setup?

RotaryManiac 12-14-2005 06:21 PM

no. its a header back system

rkostolni 12-14-2005 10:42 PM

I don't think its low enough to cause a problem for me, but for those with large suspension drops, I think its possible it could scrape on speedbumps. But maybe not.

I really like how the exhaust sounds at idle though. So far that has been the only time I've gotten to hear it from outside the car. I'm going to richen up the AFR's a bit so I can get on it and see what it sounds like WOT and try to get some sound clips from outside the car. But I'm having some unrelated issues with my car right now that I have to sort out first, its not playing nice.

PoLaK 12-15-2005 09:50 AM

I scraped my RB Catback on a speed bump on stock suspension so im sure its possible, damn massive speedbumps in Hartford, CT avoid NY's favorite suburb at all costs.

adrian-1 12-21-2005 03:37 PM

Yes, the exhaust pipe does sit lower. I'm estimating it 3 inches from the ground where it connects to the y-section of the muffler. I'm also dropped on MS springs.

Check this thread to see how much of an improvement this exhaust/midpipe added to my Greddy turbo kit.
Definitely recommend it, especially if your turboed.

mlane302 12-21-2005 04:48 PM

can anyone get another vid of this exhaust? My a few revs and a drive off? That dyno video is great, but I was wondering if there was another one that maybe gave a better idea of what it would sound like on an everyday basis. Oh yeah, this request is for non turbo cars too, as I would imagine a turbo car would be a lot quieter.

I am glad you like it, we figured it would be a nice upgrade for the turbo folks.

just thought i'd weigh in here...I took my car to PFsupercars today to have it dyno'd. the base run was with the turboxs system on and I pulled 194hp on the dynojet. Can't compare it to stock but i dont think that my car would have gotten those numbers without the mods. Anyway after tuning i got around 205 on the dynojet...I think nathan used a dynapak so i thought i'd show the difference. I'll have the dyno sheets to post soon enough if anyone wants to see them or thinks they're relevant

what were you tuning and with what???? mods other than exhaust.

beers

Armaant 12-21-2005 09:57 PM

I was having pfsupercars tune my Cz since i have no clue how to do it. It's the upgraded version with emanage glod(idk if we tuned in stage 1 or 2 we couldnt figure out the difference so any insight would be nice). So all together I have the revi+duct,cz,TXS race pipe and TXS muffler.

Moostafa29 12-21-2005 10:07 PM

Nice numbers!

So you gained 10hp more from tuning. Would be nice if you could get another pull on the dynopak and see your total gain from stock. (25hp gain from exhaust/testpipe and 10hp gain from tuning.. so it should show +35hp gain from stock). Good numbers there.

Armaant 12-22-2005 03:38 AM

actually....one the dynopak which nathan used my car came in at 171 with the revi+duct. then it came in at PEAK(this is max there is also a conservative number)) 34 hp. On PFS dynojet it came in at base with 194 base and 204 max so I belive it this were all done on the same day on the same dyno with the exact same mods it would actually show more of a hp increase. The point is i think if everything were to be installed on the same day and same dyno and then tuned I believe would see some higher numbers. So all together I'm taking it as between 204-205whp regardless of the dyno used which I'm pretty happy about for a N/A car with some pretty basic mods. Now just to get the damn cel cleared.......

EDIT: conservative gain from TXS race pipe + exhaust = 21whp
High end with TXS system= 34whp

Thinking the same thing, will this fit the GReddy SP2?

Check the link below for a video of my TurboXS exhaust/midpipe under normal driving, WOT, revving, and a few drive-bys. This is with the Greddy turbo and without the silencers installed. In-car video was done with the windows down.

TurboXS video

The sound should be louder in a NA car.

adrian-1 12-26-2005 03:32 PM

Here's a picture of my old Borla and the other is the turboXS. TurboXS does hang alittle lower.

So it's been a decade, have you made it to the dyno yet? LOL
