Even with the turbo on, this exhaust will be loud for the 1st couple hundred miles. It will start to mellow out, and sound great. It is a tad on the loud side N/A, even after it is broken in. So I'd have to agree....boost that bitch!

there's no way to tell how loud that is because it exceeds the ability of the camera's mic.
if you keep that exhaust, the first thing you want to do is cut off the tips and install a longer one.
For a while I thought no exhaust could be too loud with a turbo in place, but the hks hi-power proved me wrong.

Finally Boosted!!!!!!!
I thought my TurboXS exhaust was too loud at first also. After a couple hundred miles is quieted down but it was still loud as hell. The exhaust is designed for a turbo car and the only way to bring it back down some is to install a cat or put a turbo on that bitch. I choose the later.

You have to make sure that if you replace anything, all pipes and connecting points remain 3" or you may as well have kept using the OEM exhaust system.
As far as not melting the shrouds, I suspect the issue isn't when driving, since air will be left rearward, but more when the car isn't moving much, or idling, with the exhaust heat radiating upwards directly into the shrouds. Then again, when I engine brake, I sometimes get huge blue / orange flames that can lick upwards across my rear bumper and as high as my trunk.

I don't know the specs on that midpipe, but I know most exhaust parts for the RX-8 are designed to mate up to the OEM parts, so even when 3", the point where the exhaust meets the midpipe is usually 2.5".
That's why the turboxs is different, both exhaust and midpipe are 3.0"

what about a muff shop welding in a resonator??? can that be done?? i do love the low end sounds of the turboxs though it just at higher rpms its so loud...

yes, for the first couple hundred miles it louder. then it mellows out, plus you get used to it. im running it with the stock cat. which helps a bit. but all my friends say they can hear me coming from about 2-3 minutes before my arrival. apparently its louder than i think. it sounds great tho. nice purchase

since the sound level is the only thing you seem displeased about, i'll take it that you didn't have the fitment issues that i've seen others complain of. is that correct?
RB sells a presilencer that should help out a bit or perhaps you could source another (Magnaflow or something) somewhere else.

fits perfect....i think the problem most people have is that they tighten the midpipe to the rear single pipe all the way(which binds the rotating plate), you have to leave it loose at first, then after you connect the mufflers to the rear pipe you can tighten up the spring screws all the way.........i guess the only other thing is that the tips dont really come out enough but they are centered on the shrouds...

A friend of mine ran a Turbo XS catback for one track day. Both shrouds melted into goo stalactites.

not really, dude do you know what rice sounds like????? i think all rx8 exhaust with a cat sounds like rice!!!! the xs exhaust, looks better and sound better than alot of the exhaust out there, alot of the other exhaust have rice like 4inch + tips that look like coffee cans and stick out farther than the bumper, not clean at all bro!!!!
