Turbo XS Header and Exhaust install

Hey All - I’m new here but this looked like a great place for some info. I used to be a member of an Avenger/Sebring club, and have now made the move to big fast trucks.

My Brother-in-law has an Rx8 and we’ve already put on an AEM intake. We will be doing a Turbo XS Headers and Exhaust install in a couple days and I wanted to ask if any of you had any tips, suggestions or advice. This is his first “real” car, so he is very eager to learn.

Ive done headers before, but on older cars and trucks that had tons of room under the hood. I don’t have much experience with mazda let alone the Rx8.

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ps- I will handing this account over to him so he can start posting here.

Be prepared for his car to sound terrible and nasty loud. I had the Turbo XS header back exhaust on my car for a week before I sold it. Sounds like a deafening raspy tin can and drones like crazy. It's probably even worse with their header. A dual resonated or BHR midpipe would probably help it sound a little better.

That's what he's going to get. Hope he likes it. Because nobody else will.

My buddy has the header, midpipe, and exhaust. Installing the header was a pain and as a group we have done just about everything on an RX-8. We had to grind the engine mount bracket down to get the header to fit. Removing both engine mounts to push the engine towards the passenger side is a must. Overall I would say skip the header, it doesn't make a difference and just makes a super loud exhaust setup louder and it is a pain in the *** to install.

but, I have the Turbo XS catback and BHR pipe on my Turbocharged RX-8 and I love it.

Just my 2 cents, have the Turboxs midpipe and catback installed and love it. This is the 3rd catback on the car and the only one that has a power increase that I can feel ( seat of the pants dyno) it is on the loud side but not to much more then the AP
Thanks

Tanks for the all the replies. We were able to get the exhaust done.. It’s the setup with the straight through racing pipe, no cat. We did not attempt the header because we ran into a lot of rusted and stuck bolts. He will have to have a shop do it if he still wants it.

The exhaust is loud, but it sounds good and deep. Not like a tin can or lawn mower. Without the cat you can really smell the fumes… I foresee him putting the cat on in the future.

Lol that's me..it's true we did that a few weeks ago and it took a lot of work to install it and the gain was a minimum for what I think.

I'm in Saint Louis too! And i couldn't see myself taking off my cat for more than like a week, the sound would get to me. I will run this cat to the ground, then buy another OEM cat. He will probably find that the loud raspy tin can noise coming from a sports car will get him pulled over for any and everything, and he may end up being forced to put it back on.

Does the Turboxs race pipe really make it that loud? Anyways I just pm'd Turboxs about to buy the kit with the free race pipe but I'm getting mixed responses about the exhaust sound. I also Live in STL!

I'm in Foristell. I put the cat back on. I just moved here so I don't have all my tools. I couldn't get the mid pipe on the 3 bolts won't budge at all.

OEM header is very well made, I just desided to open up the exhaust.. I went with a duel resonated mid pipe, and all mandrel bent piping to a magnaflow muffler, 2.75" header back.. I will eventually be turbo'ing the motor, only after it is rebuilt though.

turboxs with cat mid pipe

Have the Turboxs cat back and just installed the Turboxs mid pipe with cat. With the cat it took the edge of the sound perhaps lowered the tone but still loud. Love it and got a few complements, sounds like a formula one etc. No one said it was to loud ( I was at a track day though so it was like minds.). Also no codes and performance seems to be the same.

I just placed an order for this setup this morning. TurboXS CBE and high-flow cat mid pipe. It won't be in until late October. It's gonna be a long month!!

Glad to see that it didn't throw a CEL or any codes. Thanks for the info!
