Im Danomite is selling his greedy kit for 2000 without his cobb system (so another 600 or so for that) plus installation im looking around 3500 dollars. I get a 2500 dollar bonus here soon. So I was thinking I could just buy his kit now and install it a little while later or because performance wise I'm pretty much stock just do a few other things such as sways, springs, and exhaust.

What do you guys think?

 

You will enjoy your car so much more, when boosted. What direction do you want to take your car in? Power first, suspension later? If your getting the some sort of deal with the turbo then id take it.

 

I believe that the "NEVER FAIL" mod list, in order goes like this.

1) better tires,
2) better wheels,
3) better suspension,
4) better driving skillz
5) more power

remember, just a heads up, when you go turbo, you can't slap the turbo in and buy the Cobb, and drive. you will be fine, but you will want more, trust me, besides you have to find out how to support the turbo and engine. if you see people who have a good turbo set up, they are all upgraded what ever they need to upgrade and tune them. that's way, you will last longer. it's just my believe

Im_DANomite is one of the coolest guys I've met on this forum, he's a good person to buy from. That being said, do some research before you even consider going FI. You cannot simply buy a used GReddy kit, an AccessPORT and be done. There are other things you will have to purchase even in the best case scenario. Worst case scenario you will blow an engine and you should have the ability to recover from that situation. Things to consider:

Upgraded couplers (GReddy ones are total junk)
AEM cold air intake (GReddy intake works very poorly with AccessPORT)
New spark plugs
Gauges + gauge pod
Boost controller

Thats just off the top of my head... going FI is NOT a plug and play option for this car. Do some research and make sure you aren't overextending yourself. Otherwise I highly recommend buying an AccessPORT, and the AxialFlow short-shifter. If you feel that you are definitely ready, there are a lot of good resources in the Major Horsepower section, start with the stickies.

 

So I guess I should just go ahead and upgrade other things first. Besides greddy wasnt my number one choice just had a good deal from a good guy

 

If you want FI then go for it.. but take the time to see all the things you'll need with it.

 

^ I do want FI but ideally I would prefer the Pettit kit and I suppose I would need to do alot of other mods to go along with it so I might as well save the biggest for last to better prepare my car

 

If you're looking at the pettit kit then you're also going to want to look at Hymee's kit, it's also SC and it comes with Hymee's engine management that most people will agree is very good.

FI is one of those mods that isn't just put it on and forget it, you'll always need to do extra work to ensure it's running in top shape. If you don't mind wrenching on your engine from time to time then there's no reason not to go FI now, but if you'd rather have a few more "easy to manage" mods then I'd say hold off for now.

 

yeah Ive looked at the Hymee but it pretty much runs the same exact setup (with a little bit more R&D i will admit) but it costs a good 1k more

If you have the money, buy the kit as it is a decent deal, then install it yourself. If you are like me, by the time you actually get around to it, you will have the money saved up to buy everything else.

 

Ive never dealt with FI nor do I have any local friends that could help me with install so Im not sure I would want to go that route

 

The install is basic bolt-on, just harder (I just got done putting mine back in, in my garage). If you can do basic mechanical work, you could do this. I will agree that it is not easy.

The tuning requires some skill.

 

very true.. the hardest part for most people going FI is getting a good tune.

 

well I've done alot of things like replacing the water pump, power steering pump, clutch and so forth on my old camaro

I did PM him, Told him I was interested but that I am waiting on a bonus and he told me that was fine but it was first come first serve because a few other people are in the same boat as me with the whole money issue. So here in about 2 weeks or so if he still has it I may just have to pick it up and let it sit untill I get the rest of the money to get the Cobb ap

 

you can always resell it if you decide at a later time to go a different route before putting it on your car.

I think you should go for it. But like the other guys said, plan on spending a good extra 2.5g's in supporting mods for the turbo. Different intake, Cobb AP, and IMO an upgraded turbo of some sort.
