Torque & ECU

Hey all.

New to this forum & the RX8. Ive wandered the forums a bit looking at ways to get more torque to the wheels so the car actually pulls like it should! The other day I pulled up next to a 350 on the Highway & watched it blow my doors off( ), & thats when I decided this car needs some pull. With its 50/50 weight distrobution & superb handling skills, more go would finish the car off nicely. Also, that same night I put the peddle to the floor & saw that it maxed out a good 125.. A bit disapointing to me! Can you get the ECU flashed to turn that off? Also, anyone know of any good shops in Omaha/Lincoln NE ?

So:

Easy mods to get more Torque?
Governor Removed?
Shops in NE?

Thanks for any help guys! Hope to be here a while & learn all I can.

Yea, I have the auto. Its the Sport Auto (with paddles & the ability to shift manually. Not sure what Mazda calls it. I know its called an SST in my Lincoln LS)

Peterisurhero - FI? Explain? Also, where can I find info on this PCM Flash?

He has a auto trans so there isn't a flywheel to replace.
Woods, reread this post for the only available PCM Flash available at this time.
Hint: Racing Beat

You're not really gonna add anything to that auto that will result in it keeping up with a 350...with the MT you can do enough to get you close enough that it's pretty close to being driver dependent (at least to a stock 350...and I'm not sure about the '07 with it's hp upgrade)...

I can't believe no one has mentioned that street racing is BAD, so I will jump in here and take care of it.

17" wheels, sell your 18's. Lower diameter = more torque at the wheels. And you can't get a much easier mod than wheels. You'll have a lower top speed though. Or you can install a shorter rear gear, but that's more involved.

An auto rx8 will not keep up with anything, it is a pointless car.
Mods will make it even more pointless.

I say put some stickers on it and some neon lighting.

Even in manual form the car is not that fast in a straight line.

Get one of those new wave of American muscle that Chrysler makes, huge engines, auto transmissions, gotta love it.

The "pointless" remark suggests you are not an 8 fan

My post was sarcastic.
I own an 8 and am a fan of the car and its values.

But for the future;

Please post the criteria of relevant and irrelevant posts, otherwise I will have to PM you for approval, next time I decide to post.

It'll be cheaper to keep the auto and get one of the S/C kits coming out (Hymee or Pettit).

You're going to take a big loss trying to trade from an auto to a manual, then you will STILL have to get Forced induction to beat out the cars you want. That money will add up.

if you're looking for torque why did you buy a rotary engine?? its a top end engine, thats how it was designed from the start.

... and you don't have a governor

..... i hope

Well if I dont have a governor, Im a bit disapointed at the fact the car, wouldnt go any faster than 125... Especially if its made for top end... Yes, I could have gone for big muscle, American torque & done just fine. Its true. But the RX8 had the looks. I thought there was potential there. I do understand the 6 Speed would be a difference, but didnt realize the Mazda Auto took THAT much power away. Thanks for the help here & there.

why not trade it in for a newer auto?? the newer auto's have the same engine of the 6speeds and come with a 6speed auto transmission.

I would trade in, but out here the trade in value for the car is pretty darn low. The girlfriend & I went to buy a truck & thought of using the Mazda as trade in & the didnt want to give us anything above 15.. Granted, its paid off. But Buying the car for 20K about 6 months ago, I didnt feel like loosing a good 5 grand. Yes, 20 Grand for an 04, but it had a brand new motor installed w/ 0 Miles & only 25K on the chasis, 100K Mile Warranty & Protection Package w/ Warranty also.

The engines are different between the auto and the manual. The auto engine has less HP, won't rev as high but is suppose to have slightly more torque. Top speed for the manual car ranges from 145 to 155 mph, as some have tested.
