Straight from their web page......no pictures or performance figures!

Super Medalion Hyper Spec
Bred from race technology, designed for street-level performance, and geared for clean styling, take the performance to the next level. With an extensive history in developing exhaust systems, the Super Medalion Hyper Spec is an ideal combination of a free-flowing straight-through design for a balance of performance, durability, and style.

High Efficiency Main Muffler
Tanabe's highly accomplished Research and Development team were able to extract the maximum power potential of each individual exhaust application. Clean sporty exhaust note throughout the rpm range. Simple, straight-through main muffler minimizes backpressure. Constructed of highly polished stainless steel, the Super Medalion Hyper Spec has performance with style.

Hyper Aesthetic
All Super Medalion Hyper Spec exhaust systems have a simple big-mouth style 115mm (41/2in diameter) or 100mm (4in diameter) exhaust tip that fully accentuates the polished oval muffler can. Laser etched "HYPER MEDALION" graphics finish off the clean straight cut tip.

Complete High Quality SUS304 Stainless Steel Construction
Featuring mandrel bends, the Super Medalion Hyper Spec is 100% SUS304 stainless steel, 1.2mm thickness piping, for maximum weight reduction and optimal durability. Stainless steel is also used throughout the entire system from the exhaust hangers to the main muffler canister for enhanced appearance and increased resistance to the elements. 2.5mm or 7mm flanges are used throughout the exhaust for the various temperature sections. Argon welding is used on all of the stainless steel components. The highly polished finish of the main muffler canister compliments any vehicle's appearance.

Proprietary design gives our exhaust an edge over the competition.
The Tanabe manufacturing facilities takes pride in being at the leading edge of top-notch quality construction and technological development. Our products are constructed in accordance to the industry manufacturing standard of ISO9001 (International Organization for Standardization 9001) Certification thus placing stringent quality assurance controls in place to ensure only the best.
Race proven straight-form design allows for a minimum amount of bends for maximum performance. Mandrel bent pipes are used to optimize exhaust flow.

After thorough research, the densities of the packing material are calculated to Tanabe's own specifications for the aggressive deep exhaust note.

Thumbs down

Tanabe's sound like poop. Your best bet is something that will have a JASMA rating (ie from Japan that is actually raced) since they have decibel limitations and DO produce horsepower.

You're confused on what JASMA is.

JASMA is the organization that approves mufflers, but only of a certain build quality and sound level. Too loud, and it's not JASMA approved.

The real performance is in the non-JASMA "race use only" exhaust systems. Flow like a sewer pipe and loud as all get-out . Many of them are compelete, no-cat systems too.

Speaking of, a buddy has a Greddy turbo-back exhaust for his 240sx/SR20DET that he ordered straight from Japan. Actually comes with a sticker that says "Race Use Onry" - yes, "onry" . We got a huge kick out of that.

Anyhow, Tanabe makes a quality product. Remember, the posted price is nowhere close to what you'll pay for it - that's retail. RX-8 exhausts might be a bit pricier due to the weird muffler configuration - many manufacturers will use 2 mufflers, which raises cost.

tanabe exhausts are generally pretty loud. on most 4 cylinder applications they sound fairly deep, but can get a little ricey. however, i have no idea what it will sound like on the 8, so im going to reserve judgement until i actually hear it.

I'm not saying this particular one is "worth" close to a grand, but there are plenty of exhausts that cost that much. The cat-back on my S4 was $999 and the downpipes were $1600 (!!!). The RX-8 borla sonds like a steal in comparison

Tanabe is a respectable tuner in Japan. I have researched their product before I purchased the Racing Medallion Exhaust system for my 2001 Celica - its a great performance wise, sounds great, 100% legal, and looks good. Cannot beat that, especially for a great price if you shop around!

Good to here. The hyper medalion style exhausts have smaller diameter tips and look better IMO
