TN Suggestions on a midpipe

Hey guys,

I'm not new to the 8 but I am new to the "tuner" side of them..

Basically the CAT in my '05 auto has crapped out and I need to replace it.. I was thinking that a midpipe would be cheaper and have more benefits in the long run.

My questions are... which midpipes are the least annoying sounding on the stock exhaust?
Are there any midpipes that won't throw a CEL?
Of those, which are the easiest to just bolt on without any cutting or welding..

again I'm not looking for super performance, or loud exhaust.. just a decent sounding one that is an easy replacement for the stock CAT and doesn't throw a CEL if possible.

Sorry for the noobness..

I have a stock cat for sale and im in hermitage. let me know if you would be interseted in it. with keeping with the stock cat, you will be able to pass emissions with no problems.. Having a midpipe will throw a CEL

You can get a high flow cat and not have to worry about a CEL either. Its a trade off I guess but it depends where you live and how much of a hassle it is.

Lilring - I might take you up on that... how many miles are on your cat? can you take a pic of the inside for me?

and I don't really need to worry about passing Marta - I have permanent tags because I'm a disabled veteran.. so I never have to renew or get tested

9k - where is a good place to get a hi-flow cat?

Well, we just installed the rx7store.com high flow cat on another members car and it seems pretty quiet and the butt dyno shows some gains in pick up. I think the RP supercat is a good one but I have heard of those failing but they have been good about fixing them (still a hassle though).

The best bet would be to get a cheapy ($100.00 - $125.00) straight pipe (OBX, etc.) and just have a muffler shop weld in an aftermarket high flow cat (burns, random tech, etc). I also think assaultech or one of the newer vendors has a dual resonated pipe for $215 shipped right now.

also new to the "tuner side" for the most part. recently got the AP exhaust (mufflers and the intermittent pipe) but now looking for a midpipe to get those damn flames and the lower note haha. got a lot of feedback on the RB dual rez midpipe..so my question (probably dumb), with this installed does the cat come off the car or bolt up to it? i've heard some pipes referred to as test, cat-delete, race..etc.

Yes, the RB dual Rez Midpipe will replace the stock cat. there for you will not have a cat on your 8

you would have to remove the catalytic converter from the OEM pipe and weld it into a midpipe. What we commonly refer to as the "cat" is actually the whole pipe which includes a catalytic converter and a resonator. Take a look under your car and you will see both parts. An aftermarket midpipe replaces that whole thing.
