afaik carbon buildup is mostly an effect of burning oil in the combustion chamber and has very little to do with AFR. also my understanding that given otherwise equal parameters, generally leaner = higher egt
Not sure about heat, but I'm pretty sure any fuel causes carbon buildup, if more fuel is going through and not being burned, or being combusted elsewhere, it will build up all over the place, including your cat. Only makes sense, fuel IS carbon, oil is moreso, but fuel is still a byproduct of oil, should be some carbon in it..

I mean, if I'm wrong someone let me know, but I thought that was one of the major issues with running extremely rich, your cat will go because the carbon will build up on your cat, causing it to fail, causing unnecessary heat, etc etc.

i dont argue at all that fuel burning produces carbon, but i tihnk in comparison to the injected oil burning its insignificant. How often have you heard of a piston engine that didnt have oil cutoff ring issues, suffering from carbon deposits

Why are we rehashing the same stuff that has been discussed ad nauseum for the last 4 years?
There are whole threads dedicated to this stuff.
Books as well.
And videos.

Well I never paid attention to motors at all before I got this car, so it's quite often I don't hear about those problems

<3 Rotaries, there's just so much wrong with an engine with so many moving parts! If you have any fun with it, it's going to pop :|

Yes.
But each post like this just makes the search function for things like "AFR" even less useful around this place.

The search function is already clogged with mindlessly abundant amounts of useless posts anyways, one or two more won't make or break the site.

You're MUCH better off using google search like, "rx8club should I redline very often" then using the search function on the website anyways.

I'm really not trying to be funny, I swear, but are you hearing impaired? When I went from my stock midpipe to a B&B pipe back in the day, I couldn't stand it. It's much better with the mazsport midpipe, too bad it is now linked with a douche bag....

no I'm not hearing impaired. I still hear my intake screaming and the most noise difference i hear from the exhaust is a ricey rattle sound at low rpms then intake screaming at high. Sound is horrible with the stock catback. I'm looking to buy a catback so i get a deeper tone. Ive tried the hks high power catback before on when i was stock and it was about 2 times louder than what i have now.

No damage but someone did this. I think it was Cobb lol The one he made was for the Subie snack guys. But it can be used on any car.
