Sound from K&N after 6,000?

I just installed the Typhoon intake a few days ago and its been fine. The car idles better, and the sound is a head turner. I just have one question. At WOT once i hit about 6,000 rpm i can hear a farting/popping growl comming from the intake all the way to redline. It happens in any gear at 6,000 rpm or higher. I thought it was just me but i drove next to a barrier on the highway and the sound echoed off pretty loud. Is this normal? thanks

At leastyou didnt stick it on an automatic Rx8 like Idid. Once I hit 6000 RPM and heard that same popping noise that youre talking about - the intakewould suddenly stop making anymore noise at all and thecar would sound like stock again from 6000 till redline (7500).

Thatwas one of the major reasons why I didnt keep the K&N typhoon intake installed and no one here ever explainedto me what would cause the intake to suddenly stop making noise (sucking in air) way before redline. Its not that it wasntlosing power or anything after 6000 - it just went back to its original quiet stock sound prematurely soit would sound rather ridiculous.

This intakewas designed very poorly. It doesntmake use of the cold air thatcomes in behind the left headlight and insteadsucks in all the air around its area - whichincludes the hot air coming from the engine. This intakesystem was a huge disappointment justlike everyone on here was saying it was.

that's not true it's not a huge dissapointment. I love my K & N the first time i had it on it was okay. But then i had to put the stock back on for maintanence reasons and i put it back on after like 3 weeks. I really feel the difference now and i love the sound. my k&n r0x0rs

Does this noise happen with all open element filters or just certain types?
