Simota Intake ... ??'s

At first I was originally looking at getting a Borla Exhaust system. Then after hearing about certain intakes getting the noise results that people are wanting, I was thinking why spend the extra few hundred dollars and just go for an intake...

If someone could, please give me some details on the diff. in sound from an intake and exhaust... Ive spent the last 2 days searching on these boards for everything in intakes and catbacks and can't find the thread i'm looking for that would compare the two...

Also, I've heard the Simota Intake is going for around 200... where can I find the cheapest Simota Intake on the web?? Thanks...

exhaust is way better. u'll be able to hear it in all rpms. as for the intake, they usually are noticed or heard only up in the higher rpms.

I appreciate the advice... I just wasn't sure since I'm not real familiar with intakes... I think I am going to go with the Borla and bite the bucks.

Can anyone post a soundclip of the Simota Intake system... I have already heard the one that was posted in the thread below, but it seems to have many different tones within the file (one almost sounds like a catback)... does anyone have a better clip??

https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...=simota+intake

Can anyone tell me where these intakes are sold NEW??

yes, two different sounds.... a little difficult to explain over text though.

the intake will only make sound if you are under wide open throttle. I have one of the loudest intakes (if not the loudest, K&N). the nice thing about it is that if I want to just run down the freeway and keep quiet.... I can, just don't punch the throttle open. but if I am under heavy throttle, that sun of a gun will wake the people down the street! (I Love my K&N by the way).

an exhaust is heard at every throttle and RPM level. you will hear an exhaust at idle, just cruising down the freeway, and of course it will be louder also at wide open throttle. it's really up to you. they all will serve their purpose for you. although most people go with the exhaust if they are just trying to get the "tone" of their car to sound better. like I said, the intake is only heard under WOT.

now as for sounds, the K&N is going to be your loudest. the only other intake I have heard is the RB, and the RB with the cold air. the plain RB is really not very loud at all,, while the cold air DOES add some sound to it. a fiend of mine has the cold air, and it really "loudened" the car. I was surprised.

I have a sound clip of my intake (purpose was to hear the flywheel and pulleys) let me see if I can find it.

EDIT: here it is.

oh yes, one more thing... if you were interested to see what a K&N would sound like, you could just separate your intake box by releasing the clips and remove the filter... also try to make is so that the air is being pulled from outside the box ( I did this by just using the clips as a "spacer") you can then rev it up or take it around the block (if you seperate the box, you really dont even need to pull the filter out as it will not be pulling the air from the box, but rather the outside "underhood" air.)

this will give you a GREAT idea of how the K&N sounds, and of course most other intakes will be a lot less noisy. not a bad test for something that takes 30 seconds to do. I know this is what I did, and this is what made me buy the K&N.

We just mention how they won't give you huge increases in HP & torque. Our guys get them to make their engine bay looks cleaner and for the sound that goes along with them... many have intakes here...

Just search around for sound clips, I've seen some for AEM, Simota, MS....

that is the K&N type 2. (which looks like it has come down $30 in price!) that is the newer model to mine. the filter is now round rather then my rectangle one, and there is a screen that now comes with the kit that goes in the air tract. that intake sounds just like mine. 2 of my close friends have them. I am the only one in our group that has the type 1.

you should take a look at my thread called "intakes, intakes, intakes" for a better list of whats avalible,
https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/intake-intakes-intakes-90202/
the top picture of the K&N type 1 is my car.

This may be a stupid question, but if I were to get the gen 2 from ebay... is there anything else I need to pick up for it, or should be all ready to put on?

take a look under your hood. you will see your intake box. simply seperate it (by releasing the clips.) this will make it pull air from the outside wrather then the filter. let me know if you would like a better description. (I dont have much time eight now, I will be back in a little while)

i never said that. I just wanted to know what it is. I have not bothered to go out there and measure it yet.
I picked up a new sposor, and they are replaving my filter with one of theirs. so I need to find out what the size of the pipe is.
