I'm looking to purchase these next week. The cheapest I could find so far is $395 for SuperCat on www.rx7.com . Cheapest for Borla is $620 on www.rx7store.net. Anyone know if I can get these cheaper somewhere else?

I have a supercat I'll sell you...Used for 1/2 a day...to loud for me.
Bought it a week ago and had it installed for 1/2 and took it out. Let me know if your interested

I've heard many sound clips and so far the two that sound the best to me are the Borla and MS. Haven't heard the turbo XS, I'll look for it. Thanks for the info.

turbo xs is LOUD! I havent tried the silencers yet, but it is LOUD w/o them

I don't anything to loud. I heard a clip of the supercat & borla, sounded nice. I'll see this weekend at the meet.

i have the supercat and borla combo and i think it sounds really nice!! its gives the 8 a nice growl tone without any rasp and it is not extremely loud.

If you're buying the borla, I'd say try and get it used.

As for the Supercat...that has a certain lifespan, so that's up to you.

Either way, when you get these, install them yourself to save lots of money. I did it without any prior experience installing anything.

You heard my exhaust combo at Road America, that is RP Supercat + Tanabe Hyper Medallion. The Borla should be louder than that, I'd guess.

The only problem with me installing it myself is that I don't think I feel comfortable doing it myself. The last thing I need is my whole exhaust falling off when I'm on the road. I also just priced out the Borla and MS. Best price on Borla+shipping is $690 Best price on MS+shipping is $495. I like the Borla slightly better but not worth the extra $200. I'm thinking of having the dealer do the MS CAI, MS exhaust, and MS flywheel install. I figure it may cost around $600 but it may be worth it when it comes to warranty issues. The RP I can get done afterwards by a local tech.

Can you turn a wrench? That's all there is. There's really nothing to mess up; except for forgetting gaskets, etc.

true that. the only thing is the weird smell the first time you start it up and drive it around as the metal cures and the any stuff that was in the pipes burns off.

Trust me on this one. I didn't feel comfortable doing it, either. I knew everyone said it was easy, but had no idea where to start. All I knew was that it involved bolting pipes together. It really isn't that hard. If you have any friends who have car knowledge (or a willing rx8club member near you - hint hint people), then you can do it! Search for DIY Mazdaspeed exhaust, print it out, get a friend who has done this sorta thing, and go for it!

It's a great way to meet a new friend (or spend time with a current one), save up to a couple hundred bucks, and learn about your car. I found putting it on myself very rewarding

Use that saved money for another mod!

All it really involves is getting the car on jackstands (or ramps, which are easier), getting off small parts of the rear bumper (I know, this sounds scary to you, but it's not that hard - just read the DIY), taking off the bolts, getting the exhaust hangers out, putting together your exhaust with a couple bolts, putting the hangers back in, and putting your bumper back on. The whole process for people who have no idea what they're doing can take 2-3 hours max...I did it in that long without the DIY at all.

Just do it!

its much easier to do it sooner rather than later, and be sure to not drive the car and then try and do it. damn exhaust gets SUPER hot

I see your point regarding the exhaust and CAI but what about the dropping of the tranny for the flywheel, I really don't see myself doing that. Screw that one up and I can kiss my warrenty goodbye even though its MS. So I figured I'll have Mazda do the flywheel and they are at it they can do the CAI and exhaust. Now as for the RP supercat and Agency pulley I may try those on my own with some help.

Regardless of whether you feel comfortable installing yourself or not, do not go to the dealer to have an exhaust install done (or pretty much any install, they'll charge up the ying yang). My dealer quoted me $200 for an exhaust install and a reputable shop down the street did $70 for install+bolts/gasgets

I still should have done it myself, I've basically ended up taking it off and putting back on out of pure curiosity. IMO its a good firt timer diy.

I too am thinking about the rp supercat but the lifespan is a problem. I heard he'd replace it for free if you came in locally and it was burnt out, is this true?

I am also getting the flywheel done so for warranty issues, I will ensure they do the work. Thiese small mechanic shops are there one day and gone the next. At least if the dealer does it I know that there will be no warranty issues, I'd rather pay the extra $200 and be worry free. I called them today for a quote to do the flywheel, MS CAI, and the MS exhaust, I also asked how much the flywheel will be by itself(they'll call me back). If the difference between the two is not to bad I may have them do it. If it is I may tackle the CAI and exhaust on my own.

If I were you, I'd ask a bunch of people if they're willing to help you at this meet you're going to.

Some people just really like doing this kinda stuff
