Side fed peripheral port

I got this pic off of the RX-7 forum. When rules don't allow you to do certain things, apparently getting creative is a way to bend the rules to the max. When a peripheral port isn't legal but a side port is, where is it legal? Does the port have to enter the chamber from the side or just engine? Here is one person's crazy interpretation of the rules. Use the standard inlets and manifold but then modify the housing to have peripheral ports. While it does make a couple of sharp bends, you can't deny the creativity that went into it. Without taking the engine apart, you'd never know it had peripheral ports. Is anyone getting some crazy ideas?

hmm since I really have no idea what you are talking about at the moment I'll just as what most of us are thinking - does this mean some type of way to get a good power boost? for not an insane amount of money? ^_^

It would be a sure fire way to get far worse gas mileage and make your car a hell of a lot louder.

this is a very interesting idea u know...but if the rules say no PP then how are u going to get by when u have a pp sounding engine...i understand the only way to know its PP'ed is by cracking open the engine, but what about the sound? this idea is very cool and tumbs up to the guy(s) that invented it... just when i thought i've seen it all in the world of porting, here comes another one :-D

I have no doubt that it can't match a conventional peripheral port but then again the goal is to just outdo a side port so it may have accomplished that. It does have a big problem in that the port runs through the water jacket. Even though it doesn't cut the water seal, it's still in the water housing. Sealing that would be a pain in the ***. I would personally consider that a rules violation if a peripheral type of port were outlawed.

Sealing would suck and the thin wall of the CC with gas on BOTH sides would probably fai (distort)l in short order. There would be a massive hot-spot there.

I saw this at rx-7 club too, its at least very creative, I heart it was judge ito's engine?
theres some good side and pport info in that threat too.
i wonder what is the power potential of this? and if theres a way to use this for a street car?

I agree as they would be "wanting" the air/fuel to be entering the side plates and having the side of the rotor as the "valve" rather then the apex seal. (like a traditional P port) none the less it is very interesting, I would still like to see how it does compared to the side port.

hot spots might not be to bad as it is intake, but sealing could be a problem like you said. boost would make it even more difficult.

Man, I hope they get the engine put together and get some numbers for us curious people.

flawed logic, if the port is in the periphery of the rotor housing it's still a peripheral port I see people try to pull this kind of stuff all the time in the SCCA, that dog won't hunt past any PC
