RX8 turbo upgrade

Finally Boosted!!!!!!!
When using the AccessPORT or the INT-X you need to know what impedance your injectors are. The OEM injectors are 290cc/380cc/380cc high impedance injectors. Most larger aftermarket injectors are low impedance. I know the INT-X (MicroTech) has injector drivers that can handle either high or low impedance but I am not so sure about the AccessPORT. You better make sure the AccessPORT can handle low impedance injectors if yours are low impedance before going that route because if not, you can fry the ECU.

I personally tend for the Interceptor as I have a professional tuner (the guy who mapped my Supe owns a 1000hp Supe and a 700 hp RX7 - compagny cars - which have both been mapped by him ... so rotary mapping is no problem).

I would pick a MAF based tuner before a MAP based tuner every time.
Here in Canada we have extreme changes in weather temps. I couldin't imagine having winter and summer tunes.

They're not driven when temperature is below 15 °C ... under that temp, the Supe's Michelin Pilot sport cup semi-slicks don't even come on temp and I have wheel spin even in 3rd when the turbo comes on boost.

Ok ... but I am a little bit sceptic on the AccessPort.
On my Supe, 6 hours of mapping had been perfomed on the stand alone ecu (AEM) till it was finished (at 3 boost settings).
Having seen the installation instructions on the AccessPort, I saw that no mapping has to be perfomed. My Supe has been mapped several times (through the different upgrades) ... and I am confused that no such mapping sould be necessary on the Rex
How does the system know the setup of the car. Am I right that MM will provide the map for the setting I have (larger injectors, pump, decatted exhaust, ...)
Luc
P.S. Don't bother ... I would never sell my Supe ... not for any money ... 600 hp and 560 ftlbs are really nice

Here are the basics. While every RX8 is different they are all very similar, so after you give MM the details on your system, MAF housing size, injectors, ignition, turbo set up ECT the base MAP is usually very close You will do some data logging abd based on the readings jeff will make some adjustments to the injector scaling, target A/F ect.
Once everythign is set, its set. You can turn the boost up or down and it still functions correctly. If you decide to drive to the mountains it still works. Everything functions liek stock. 99% of the time it will make more power and have better drivabilty then a MAP based system.
Also, not sure if you need to upgrade the fuel pump. I beleive the stock system is good for 400HP. Most of the only people who need to upgrade the fuel pump are doing it to solve fuel starvation issues during hard cornering.

Where are you going to put it? I assume that you are going to a return type system..so you likely want the regulator close to the injectors...if that is the case you can put it in the engine compartment near the dipstick..the metal lines end there and go to plastic...and you can easily remove the plastic and use HP tubing and AN fittings. You would need to run new feed line and use the stock hardline for return.....
You would also need new fuel rails.....
The stock fuel system is good to 350HP at least for street driving...and OK for track as long as you remember the slosh effect and that the pumps die easily

How about upgrading the boost controller to the SARD also?
It has it's own pump, so can open the wastegate at ANY boost level......
(Plus you could copy the manual for me - I bought one used and it looks like a biatch to install with just Kanji instructions!)

Do some reading on the AP and MAF tunning. There is a tunning section with tons of info.

Yeah, you're right with the pump. In theory, it should provide sufficient fuel. But, even now (with my actual setup), it sometimes does not bring the fuel to the engine at the right pressure when accelerating hard (sometimes, the acceleration pauses for some tenth of a second before going further). So I guess a more powerful pump would be required.

The FPR problem is solved, as it will only be needed once the power climbs beyond 360 rwhp (wich is not as high as I plan to go).
I will go for a Bosch 044 pump (in take) wich will replace the OEM in tank pump. OEM Fuel lines will stay in place.

Hello chaps,
parts are slowly coming in ... exedy clutch has arrived ... waiting for the GARRETT turbo, AEM cold intake and the ukon coils.
I have problems contacting mazdaparts.com for an interceptor X EMS. Anybody got an idea if they're hibernating ... or maybee anyone have an Interceptor X?
Cheers

yuhuu ... Interceptor X is on its way (thanks Brice).
Bosch044 fuel pump has arrived, plus AEM AFR gauge. What is a nice fitting place for the AFR gauge?
Yukon coils will hopefully be shipped end of the week.
I hope that the GReddy upgrade kit from MM I ordered is one of the 7 that will be shipped in april ... can't wait to have everything fitted.
Will update the post in detail (plus video ) once everything is on the car.

A quick hello and good by from my side.
The RX8 is up for sale now. It's running a GReddy TD06 hybrid turbo, with around 380 bhp at 13 psi.
More work has gone into the Supra lately, which has pushed 651 rwhp on the dyno lately
Once the RX8 is sold, the new project can be puchased : NISSAN GTR.
Best regards .. and thanks for the helpful information.
Cheers
