Rx8 transmision same in '06 Miata

Does anyone know if the new Miata which uses the Rx8 platform use it's transmission?
I'd like to know this so I can offer the shifter kit to that market.

no, it has it's own all-new transmission, I don't have a clue if the shifter will work or not though

that was the previous Miata and it has a shorter tailshaft and other subtle differences

The 2006 MX-5 Miata is literally all new—there were no carryover parts from the past generation for the U.S. model.
The all-new six-speed manual transmission ....

as far as the 6spd MT goes, the miata ratio's are almost identical to the RX8. I'd like to look up thw part numbers for both and see if they are the same.

even though it is based on the same platform, the suspension parts are all different

I think RP is more interested in similarities and differences related more to the shifter itself as he would like to offer a short shifter for the MX-5 too... particularly if the one for the RX-8 will fit it.

i was at the NY autoshow this weekend and I'm about 90% sure the throws on the new Miata are a bunch shorter then our cars... no clunkiness in the 4-5 shift either

Just take one out for a 'test drive' and quickly zoom back to your shop and do some 'surgery' on the car to see if it works.
