RP Supercat Discussion

Guys, I have ordered a new RP supercat to try out. I know the design has changed a few times over the past few years. What experiences have you had? Anyone dyno test it? Did it last or burn out quickly?

i have the 2nd gen supercat and it recently went out. it lasted about 11k miles then got a cel(got it pulled and it was for catalyst failure) and very stinky exhaust. i do like the supercat very much and hopefully rp will replace it like they have done for everyone else.

Well I to have the first gen for better than 3 years and 20,000 miles with no problems . What I can tell you is that my car pulls harder in the mid rps than before . You will hear more exhaust noise for the car . But I realy like the sound with the Racing Beat Exhaust .

I got mine in December so I would assume I have the latest and greatest.
3,000 miles so far, sounds GREAT with my RB exhaust!

I'm hitting the dyno next month so we'll see what happens.

So the new version of the RP supercat is quieter than the older versions?

i would figure it would be close to the same but i dont know. the older one that i have uses a smaller cat and doesnt have a hanger on it and the newer one has a larger cat and has a hanger welded on it

This is the right one right? I think the picture may be old though.

I think I have the ver 1 (smaller cat/no hanger), It doesn't have the heat shield anymore, I guess it fell of somewhere at some point... I've had it on the car for about 20K miles now and no problems so far and I hope I don't jinx myself by posting this LOL

Here is a thread I started last year before getting my RP super cat. Halfway down the first page is a pic of the new style supercat.

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/latest-version-rp-supercat-114686/

FWIW I have been running mine with the factory cat-back and it sounds excellent. More edgy than the stock exhaust, but I honestly forget that its even there most of the time. I think the newer version supposedly lasts a bit better, but is also slightly more restrictive (or at least thats the thought...never seen a dyno to prove this one way or the other). It does come with the hanger now too.

Now...maybe they have changed it since then, but this unit pictured in the link I provided was the third version I think...???

Hope this helps

jeff

I read that thread and it has good info but mainly realted to how it sounds. I would like to hear from someone who has dynoed it before and after. My personal preference is to have the quietest car I can while making the most power. I have the racing beat catback and like it but would be willing to run this cat if it makes more power. It should arrive today and I will dyno it ASAP. Here is my before chart. Car is an 05 6MT with RB intake, catback, and agency pulley.

I am interested to see what your results are at the dyno after installing the supercat. It has been my belief that the cat is the primary clog point for the exhaust and the real power gain opportunity when modifying the exhaust by using a hi-flow or test pipe.

I looked at the RB catback, but decided to keep it stealthy so far hoping that replacing the cat was the best bang for the buck. Based on your future dyno I guess we will know.

kenny: I look forward to seeing your 'after' dyno. I'm doing the same next month and we'll compare. You're a bit closer to the 200 mark then I am as my last dyno was 190.2

The Results !!!

I just got back from the dyno and I gained 5.4 HP and 3.4 TQ. The gains were everywhere in the band from 4500rpm up to 9000. This cat sounds great with the RB catback. It is not raspy or too loud but perfect if you love the Rb sound and just wanted a little more. Overall a great product from the gang at RP.
