Rp super cat Vs. RB racing pipe
Rp super cat Vs. RB racing pipe
Hey all, I currently have the RB cat back exhaust. I was looking into either gutting out my OEM cat or buying the Rp super cat or the RB racing pipe. Any suggestions or personal experiences. Thanks for your help.
both will give a check engine cell and pipe IF IT IS resonated will keep the noise down ( my choice )... dont gutt the cat please you will need that for inspection

Gutting your cat make you lose power actually. In the most recent issue of Import tuner they did a bunch of dyno pulls with a gutted cat, a high flow cat and a race pipe. Although the power loss was minimal, 3hp less than the high flow cat, 5hp less than the race pipe. But with the cost of a race pipe being fairly inexpensive you might as well do it properly.
Also the race pipe will be much louder that the high flow cat unless you have a good resonator.

^ I find it hard to belive that a gutted cat will cause loss of power however I would not gut the cat, you can sell it for the price of a midpipe if you wanted to. I have a midpipe and it is LOUD when your on it. Its all about how much noise you and/or your neighbors can tolerate.
Yea IMO, it depends on your cat-back as well. I'm going to gut my SuperCat tomorrow b/c its clogged pretty good. So its cheaper then buying a new pipe and i still get to use the pipe.
After the PA DynoDay i'll post my dyno with my soon-to-be gutted RP SuperCat.

DING DING DING DING DING DING DING. Winner winner chicken dinner. Believe it or not, I don't care it's your car. Just google it, it was proved long before import tuner.
The OEM cat I have was given to me for free I have two and one is gutted. And on the note of losing power, im sure you would lose power on replacing the cat in general. The trick is to tune the fuel ratio so it gains a few ponies. I think im just gonna install the gutted one to see how it is before I buy one. Thanks
Just an update. I have put in the gutted out cat and it is running great the MAF on my readings have gone up and the sound is nice not too loud but loud enough with a nice POP in the shifts.
CAT is required in many states.
They can tow you for that.
Also the smell is inbearable unless you get the AP from Mazda Manic.

Is the RP mid pipe bolt & gasket kit needed for the install? I have stock header for now(I may go with aftermarket header in the future) and MS cat-back, is there any issue with my setup if I go with this high flow cat? Any thought on this high flow cat on rx7store?
I don't think that the bolt/gasket kit is required but is probably recommended. Depending on if you can get the stock bolts and gasket off without damaging them you could probably reuse the existing stuff. Depending on how old the car is, with the heat the exhaust pipes see day after day it can be extremely hard to get them off without damaging them. I would go ahead and just get it to make things easier for you that way you don't have to worry about being gentle with the current stuff to try and reuse it. A new supercat is almost $400 right? What's another $30 to save you time and trouble?
Bartste make sure you post your impressions after installing the pipe because I am considering adding the RB header and RP super cat to my RB cat back, but I'd love to hear what you thought before I do it.
