Ugh. I JUST put synth in my transmission too. I almost want to just put up with it and double-clutch every time rather than deal with it being at the dealer for weeks, having a rental and having to put synth fluids in again. I know that it's a better idea in the long run to just get the work done however.

Maybe if they replace my tranny I can convince them to throw on a lightened flywheel for no labor charge while they're at it...

People like you are the ones who bitch and complain the most about the dealerships.

You have a problem ignore it then take it in or have it towed when it's completely broken. Then when the dealer looks at it it looks like you abused it.

Get it fixed. Not saying your one of those complainers but damn the car is tell you something. Listen to it, treat it when required and you will love the 8.

Neglect it and see where it gets you.

Never had a problem downshifting into second. Do you know how to Rev match?

Cars resist down shifting unless you rev match, especially at high RPM.

Woah buddy, chill out. I was saying that yes, it is a pain in the *** to go get this looked at because a: I've brought it in before for this same problem just to get it back 3 days later with them saying there's nothing wrong, and b: because every time I get it back they say "bring it back if it gets worse."

So, yes I do complain about dealerships, because they waste my time. As far as rev matching, I did in fact state that I'm already doing that. If you had read the question, I specifically asked "is it normal to not be able to downshift into second WITHOUT double-clutching?"

And your statement about cars resisting downshifting without rev-matching- I've had 5 manual cars so far, all from different manufacturers- none of them have any problem with downshifting. My 8 literally will not let you enter 2nd, no matter how much time you give the clutch.

I don't know if you meant to come across as a jerk, so if you didn't I apologize. I'm merely double-checking on here before I bring in my car AGAIN for another issue that they can easily say doesn't exist. Look up one of the "marbles in a blender" threads to see my previous saga of getting a dealer to even look at my car. I have good reason to be hesitant to bring it in again.

Good luck with adding a flywheel while they are in there....

I asked how much it would be while they were in there and for some reason the mech did not want to even consider it. His reasoning is the lighter flywheel will make it idle rough oh and he considered the Mazdaspeed flywheel an aftermarket part saying warranty wouldn't cover any drivetrain components if something went bad...

I couldn't even pay them to put a new throwout bearing in while they had it apart

When they reinstalled the RP shifter they didn't push the rubber boot down and they tightened the **** down as if it would hold the transmission in place. That made it resonate the transmission noise real bad. Took me two minutes to readjust everything and it was back to normal quiet

Not sure if they would be able to tell the stock shifter from the RP. Last time I checked it didn't have the name of it plastered down the side. That may have been because the name wasn't decided when I purchased it.
Do the new ones?

what he said, but it they are just working on the tranny... it is more work....

they have to remove the bellhousing.... the pp, and the flywheel that you want to change...

would it take long.. just a bit. but for free.. probably not...

now if you are getting a new motor... different story..

Yeah I better not push my luck if they're going to actually fix something. That sucks about your RP shifter man. That's the reason why it's important to do any work that you're able to do yourself, rather than take it somewhere. That way you at least know it's done right. This is coming from many strange inattention to detail experiences including leaving a National Tire and Battery after a tire rotation and having a wheel fall off my car on the road (not my 8)...

im still patiently waiting ordered it on monday i belive, it was early am hours jsut got off work... Richard said in 2 days or so, its friday, but im not worried.. im assuming some time next week.. i jsut wait to get it in

ah im not worried, or complaining, i expect a 2 week Shipping for almost everything i order, so if it arrives earlier, im thrilled... im jsut itching to get this installed and running.. i hear nothing but good things, and i loved shifting the SS that my buddy has in his z06..
Edit: Ahh my apologizes Mr.Paul, i forgot i Pmed you, You did say that it will be 4-6 days or even up to 10... i forgot about that msg, you were right

I just got mine, and my shipping was very fast. After installing it I have to say that it is worth every penny. I no longer have trouble with the 1-2 shifts like I used to. It does take some getting used to with how short the distance between 3-4 and 5-6 are, but it's nice once you get used to it.

I did however have a problem with the install. The plastic piece that sits around the large ball was on there backwards, meaning that the only way it was possible to install it was backwards, with the lockout tab pointing left. It was pretty easy to pop the piece up and spin it 180 degrees, so it would go in the proper direction, but if I was stupid or didn't know what I was doing then it could be a problem.


Anyways, richard, I don't know if you still read this thread or not, but you may want to check the latest batch you're sending out, to see if mine was the only one.

An easier way to deal with that is to put the shifter into the hole and turn it until the tab lines up. No grease on your hands.

i don't think that was possible because the plastic piece sits on two "studs" that come out from the ball. I had to pop it up off of these, and turn it 180 and then pop it back down onto them. I'm not talking about the plastic piece at the very bottom, but the big one up from that, that has a groove on it to match the groove in the top of the transmission to make sure the shifter only goes in one way.

The little rib should be on the same side as the lockout tab.

Yeah, it only took me like 5 minutes to figure it out, so honestly i could care less. I'd rather have gotten it and figured it out, than someone else gotten it and been lost completely and had to send it back or something.

Another congrats on such a fine product. Every time I drive it I love it more and more.

wow... this was my first installation ever on cars. nd i have to say, it was HELLA hard. The screws broke off in the gearbox, so i therefore had to krzyglue the cap of the gearbox. do you guys think i should buy that piece that i broke the screws wit??

No.

You should however get the broken bolts drilled and removed with an ezy-out, then replaced. There is nothing holding your shifter in....and that is bad, if not illegal.

Go easy on the weeties next time...

Immediately take your car to someone with some automotive experience. No one has broken those bolts off before. They have lost them, but you had to have overtightened them a bunch. I use 1/4" tools on them.

That glue will not last long. Your new best freind will have to remove the "tower" that the plate screws into. It is the part with 4 bolts holding it down. He will then put the part in a drill press or mill and drill out the old bolts. Then reinstall it.

Turns out the shifter is out today, picked it up.. installed it.. install was easy to follow, and took me about an hour, i know whatp pl mean by more transmission noises... I love it though, Shifts smooths, Very very very very pleased
