RP FAILED, NO RESPONSE from www.rx7.com

Hi everybody,

You can see photos of my broken RP Cat after 10.000Km , bellow:

http://img147.imageshack.us/my.php?i...mage076xf0.jpg
http://img377.imageshack.us/my.php?i...mage077eb3.jpg
http://img392.imageshack.us/my.php?i...mage078bj7.jpg

I have sent a mail (1st of October) to www.rx7.com specifically to Christopher Ott in order to inform them about my problem. I got NO REPLY for my mail till now. I have called personally Mr Christopher Ott who told me that he will reply, but he did not.

No customer service at all. Even a simple reply to signify that they process my request.

Bellow you can read my email

Dear Sir,

I sent you this e-mail in order to explain you the situation I have faced using RP Supercat that was bought from your store.

History of the purchase you can find in the previous emails.

When I first installed the RP Supercat my car had exactly 68.000Km and I was very impressed with my car’s performance. However, after 5000Km some problems came up. Specifically, a metal noise was coming under the car which after I lifted the car I found out that the heat shield of the cat was detached causing such a noise. Anyway I had to leave with this metal noise till today that I found out that the RP Supercat had failed exactly after 10.000KM installed on my car ! The diagnosis of the failed cat came from my authorized Mazda dealer who tried to pass the cat test in my car without success. In addition, after he lifted the car the dealer gently pushed the RP Supercat and heard some noise coming inside the cat. That noise (it was like marbles) signified for second time to the dealer that the material inside the RP supercat was broken into pieces.

Finally, we opened the RP cat to find out the broken piece inside the RP Supercat“

Please advise me what to do in order to claim the 1 year warranty that the RP supercat includes with a purchase.

I am very sorry for this complain e-mail and any inconvenience causing you. I favor a lot this product and I hope that those kind of problems to be rare.

Thank you for your time.

I've emailed them before with no response, they can get quite busy there with rebuilds, turbo installs, all sorts of stuff is always going on there. Call them up and talk to them direct, it's MUCH MUCH quicker and you can get an answer almost immediately. Mary is usually first point of contact and then you can ask to talk to Ari or Chris if she can't get you the answer. I don't know if they don't check email or what but they spend most of their time under the hood and not at a pc. Calling is your best bet I say.

I called directly to rx7.com and I had a conversation with Mary because Chris was not available. I have forwarded my email to Mary so that she will contact Chris.

I hope that this will work out and give just a little attention to a customer.

Funny!! My RP Cat is also making noise in 4th gear when I rev high around 4 -6. It sounds like something is loose when I rev, I first thought it was the transmission, but its the RP I guess from your problem. I just had mine installed 2 Month ago. The noise comes and goes. Do you think its the same problem?
I even stopped and looked under my car to see if there was something was stuck, but nothing. Everything seemed ok. Do you think its the same problem?
When and why was your RP Making that metal clinging noise?

sorry to hear that your RP failed already, that thing didn't last long at ALL!
Mine has over 10,000 miles on it and still working great. (heat shield did come loose, got it rewelded)

I've always heard that RP takes care of their customers when stuff like this happens, good luck!

Man that sucks. I have a good 15k miles on mine and not a problem, not even the heatshield.

Anyways, I hope it works out for you.

or do what a local member here did:
drill a hole, place nut / bolt, problem fixed.

(plus the heat shield makes it look like a stock cat should the cops take a peek)

They get tons of e-mail and aren't the best about replying to it all. Call them. They are easy to work with. I wouldn't say they failed when all attempts at contacting them weren't originally made. Mary, Chris, or Ari are very easy to deal with.

Well, I have called once Chris and he told me he will read my mail that explains the problem I have with the RP. He never replied to me.

Yesterday I called again asking for Chris. He was not available at the moment and I talked to Mary and explained her the problem and even send again the mail to her. No response either from Mary.

2 International Calls, More than 5 emails, contacted two different persons. No response !!!! If you consider this customer service then I leave in another planet.

Dude, 2 calls? Thats it? If ur not timing up the calls well you will never get him.

Forget the emails, they wont get answered in timely fashion. I live in Dallas and have been over there 5-6 times for parts for my 8 and my FB. They are MAD busy year round and have anywhere from 20-25 customer cars (all 7's) on the property waiting for work at any given time.

I have never had trouble getting Chris on the phone. You need to time up your calls to catch him first thing in the morning before he gets ***** deep into a rebuild or turbo install or right after lunch. I have said it many times, they are ALL great people over there and i seriously doubt they are purposefully avoiding you. I dont think i have ever (till now) heard of customer service issue with them

Its a timing issue man, call first thing in the morning or right after lunch.

...oh, and my Supercat has 16K miles on it and going strong wit no issues

It is probably the shift lever that is down there hitting the heat shield from time to time. If you look you will probalby see a little dimple in the heat shield lined up with one of the bolts at the end of the shift lever.

the RP pipes are notorious for having the heatshield weld coming loose and vibrating... happened to mine but I really only heard it at certain RPMs and didnt really care that much.

I had my supercat fail (bad batch) and had it replaced... they were very helpful and worked with me... just keep calling.
