Well. Never had a problem with my car until today. Drove about an hour to check into a possible new job. Got there fine. On my way back, I didn't get far before I noticed it didn't want to rev over 5-6k.
And then.
Stopped at a red light, very slight uphill slope, go to take off and I make it halfway through the intersection before it studders, bogs, no power at all if I let the clutch out just trying to get out of the way of traffic. Limped it halfway out of the lane before it just would not move anymore, max revv at about 2500, and finally died. Wouldn't start back up.
After sitting for a couple minutes I tried to start it again, starts fine, I drive off.
Then a couple miles down the road, just outside of the city at this point, driving steady speed, car starts rocking the rpms up and down until again it would not move and finally died. Wouldn't start or would start, idle for about 10 seconds, die again.
I did this for about 2 hours. Drive a little; let it sit for various periods of time. Drive again.
Throughout the sitting times, I looked for any obvious vacuum leaks, loose electrical connections, etc. Nothing.
About 88 degrees today. Fuel pump had taken a steady hold on my mind during this, but my DW200 is just over a year old.
So I had hoped it wasn't so. I was a little over a quarter-tank. Nearing the threshold for possible pump overheating.
Finally made it to a gas station, filled up, completed the remaining 15-20 minute drive home with no issue.

I'm not sure how I want to proceed from here on this issue.
I suppose as of right now we'll just consider this a note and hope no future problems arise.

Any Update on what it was? I have a DW265 on my GTI, 2 years almost and no issues, Great build so far! How many miles were on her when you bought it?!

Thanks for your interest!

I'd have to say that I was correct in thinking the fuel pump was overheating, since as soon as I filled the tank I had no further issues.
Rather than waiting for warranty and such, since it had overheated about 5 times or so that day I definitely wanted a new pump, with the price being what it is I just went ahead and bought another one, same model. Upon pulling it out, the filter sock had gotten pretty nasty in the year or so since I installed the first DW pump.
So in conclusion I couldn't really hold fault on the pump and settled that I had picked up contaminated fuel at some point and clogged the sock, combined with the somewhat low fuel level at the time caused the pump to be overworked.
Haven't had any issues since installing the second pump with the once again cleaned sock.

I bought the car with around 128,000 I believe, service records showed recall engine replacement about 45,000 before that.

Updates.

A couple weeks before I was going to park him for the winter, I lost the ability to get it in gear while running. Odd the way it happened, I parked it in my garage in the morning after work, went to leave later that evening, wouldn't go into gear. Wasn't making any funny noises, still had pedal pressure, still went into gear while not running.

The cause; pilot bearing failure:

The solution; Exedy Stage 1 clutch and ACT ProLite flywheel:

Still had a lot of life left on the factory clutch. The old and ugly:
