REV-I what you really thought?

I have read several posts here such as the "your favorite mod" and many others and no-one here really advocates adding intakes. I cannot seem to find a dyno plot of before and after and racing beat only claims ~2hp for most of the useable power band(2-8300). Which brings me to my question, What did you guys really think?

Intake and exhaust mods on the '8 are for placebo effect only.
But if it makes you enjoy the ride more then what the hell!

Not quite worth the removal of my front bumper and two hours work for 2hp. I am a "newbie" but I have done alot of reading here and so far only the RP supercat midpipe looks to be a good mod. It appears to add and honest 9hp and some sound. I will probably use it with the stock exhaust.

There was a dyno done a while back by a member named Polak. He did the RB intake and it may have only gained like 2-3hp at peak...but in the midrange it picked up 10whp. IMO, that's pretty substantial if you're looking for power in that rev range.

I look back on how I spent my money on all my modifications... If I could have changed the order at all, I would have bought the Racing Beat flash first not last.

Tune first, and then maybe the placebo intakes/exhausts will become tuned placebo intakes/exhausts

Other than that your doing it for the noise

take a look in the Tech section for my dyno thread... We dyno'd 19 RX-8's on the same day and 5 of the top 6 hp cars had RB intake or exhuast... hmm.....

Again, not sure where people are getting this notion that 2-3 hp across the board & 6-10 hp on the top end is a "placebo" effect. No NA mods are going to give you much on the low end, not even the hi-flow cat, pullies, cat back exhaust, flash, anything. It's an NA mod just like everything else. The hp gain is on the middle-top end.

I'm sure the biggest issue that people have with intakes for the 8 is that it's not the same bang for the buck as it is on other cars.

I like mine, definitely felt an improvement in the upper and mid ranges over my stock one, but as posted previously not quite the bang for the buck you'd hope for.

Intake+exhaust are for sound. If you want to really increase acceleration accross the board get a lightweight flywheel.

what about intake + exhaust and a little intake tuning? no considerable difference? with all that said what is the most power producing intake that you've all seen?

g30ffman: The problem with answering your question is the unreliability of the data we have to work with.

- K&N once claimed their intake was producing 10+ hp. Some forum members did before & after dynos only to discover they'd LOST hp.

- Most RX-8 intakes will only produce a few hp here and there. I believe the main reason I went with the Revi is because I feel the Renesis simply needs better airflow to the engine and I think the Revi + duct helps accomplish that.
Even RB claims only around 3hp and possibly a little more at high rpm's.

Was the lost hp with the typhoon version 2 or the old version 1?

I've been debating swapping my k&n v.2 for the Revi. Not yet convinced that its worth my time and effort. Maybe with the RB flash the extra high end flow of the k&n v.2 will be worth it?

I would say go with an intake you like the looks / sound of the most. Off the top of my head, I would recommend:

- Racing Beat
- AEM / Mazdaspeed (they're the same)

Rythmic: I want to say it was Version 1.... (been a while since I read the post) I'm leaning towards V1 just because the 8 hadn't been out long and people were skeptical about the claims.
