Racing Beat tested several aftermarket exhausts and got about 3.5 hp at beat. I seriously question (and they tell you should too) some of these tuners that are claiming 15 hp from an exhaust. If most people are getting 3-5 hp from the exhaust, that would mean the headers are generation about 17 hp (of the claimed 20 hp). I'm seriously doubting that. I can easily understand 20 hp on a turbo car, but on a NA car that is a very, very difficult process. Even on a straight pipe and no muffler, Rcing Beat got about 8 hp. That seems far more legit than these outrageous claims of 20 hp. Next thing they will be telling us is that stickers add 10 hp.

Paul Yaw has built some beautiful headers and he showed them off at last years Sevenstock VI. I'll quote him from one of his pm's to me. "The Renesis has proven itself to be unresponsive to headers." Notice he doesn't say less reponsive than piston engines or older rotaries. He says unresponsive as in makes NO difference at all. This is attributed to the fact that there is a siamesed center port that completely destroys any tuning benefit between chambers. That is what headers do yet because of this configuration, they can't. If something can't do what it is supposed to do then how can it perform the way it is supposed to perform? It can't. Racing Beat confired this by stating the currently available headers that were tested were good for a max of 4 horsepower at PEAK rpm only. Will you feel that? Not even in a Civic.

I've said it once and I'll say it again. There isn't a worthy header currently on the market for the RX-8. Any good tuner who has done this for years and is a definitive expert on the subject will know this. Let's take a look at Re-Amemiya. I don't car how smart that guy is, he isn't smart enough in this scenario. If you look at all of his past success, it has all been with turbos! See the real issue. So it really IS lack of experience. The true experts, Racing Beat, have not yet released a header. Anyone care to guess why? They have a reputation. If they make a product that is a paperweight, it will hurt their reputation. Borla is also working on a header and they have admitted that the center port is the key to power from a header on the Renesis. What have I said here for the past year? Anyone? Now let's go look at RE-Amemiya. They have a cult following. It doesn't matter what they make. If they have it and say it works, people will buy it. Case in point. Yes they do make fast RX-7's and know how to do many things very well. A Renesis header isn't one of them. If a generic header design was good for 20 hp on this engine, don't you think we'd see more of them on the market? Say yes! It isn't hard to make a simple header. If they are this easy to sell, I'm going to just start welding them up myself and selling them for $500. I'll be rich!

that headers made without taking into account and tuning them for the siamese ports are just paperweights?

other than that i can't think of anything. it's not like you have said much and your posts are always too short :D :p

I know you had explained this before, concernign headers and the issue surrounding siamesed exhaust ports.

In theory, would converting the siamesed ports into a large single port make gains for the car?

I am a little confused about what you are asking. Aren't siamesed ports already just a large single port?

There is poor flow through the center ports just due to the fact that the runner is so small and narrow. If we could seperate them and set them up the same as the intake ports, then we could more easily tune the exhaust for some benefit. It would then be possible to keep front and rear chambers completely seperate for as long as we want.

oops .. I thought the exhaust ports were halved, so the outlet on the housing were 2 smaller outlets forming a larger one but that wouldn't make sense to begin with.

Sorry, I'm wrong, totally on this one.

Why are so many people affixated on JDM parts? Their build quality is no different than that of the United States. I heard the RE Amemiya exhaust is somewhere around $800+. That's awful. For that kind of money, I could buy the RB exhaust, some spark plugs, and have some money left over to go the Starbucks and buy me an ice cube.

it is not a brain job, but you will prolly need a lift. esp. for the header install.

nice that HKS look realy well made! I haven't had a good chance to compare it to others but the collector looks like the best I've seen.
I reckon the quality of these looks second to none!

Y no mid-pipe? are you using the std one?

way to go... Is that the Re Amemiya Header? I think it is.....

And yeah.. why no mid pipe to hook up to your hks....? EDIT... I think I see the pipe in a picture....

Did you know about the release of the knight sports header? I am sure you did.. why did you choose this one over that?

Thankx...

One more thing while I am editing.. whats the piece that connects to the header? Is this now considered a complete exhaust setup?

Header to high flow cat to resonator to mid to cat back??? or is there something else.....
