Quick Performance Packages

So I'm very new to this RX8 forum and RX8 ownership... that being said I'm already looking for more performance out of the 8. I've been reviewing this forum and have found an abundance of information and advice (so much my wife is starting to check out clinics for addiction) I ran across this website and I'm considering it heavily but I need good sound advice with unbiased opinions from people that frankly know a bunch more than myself. Looking forward to seeing your postings and suggestions, thank you all for your help and advice!

buying one of these performance packages IMO would be a bad idea (companies like to inflate their dyno numbers in order to sell their products... imagine that ). Depending on how much money you want to spend and what you want out of your 8 determines a lot.

If you are going to stay NA and want to get the most hp out of your 8 the best way to do that is:

1. Drop in K&N filter - $40
2. mid pipe (Racing Beat, BHR, TurboXS)/ High flow cat (RP Supercat) - anywhere from $250 to $400
3. Accessport (to tune it) - $730. If you buy from MAzdamaniac the tuning comes free with your purchase.
Total = $1170 and you will get more from this than any set up from that website.

It all depends on what you want to do to your 8. Yes some products are better than others and the best way to find them is to SEARCH this forum! If you want to compare sounds of different products (exhaust, intake, midpipes) go to you tube, there are tons of them!

You have a lot more searching to do, so get to it!

Note: A 'midpipe' in this context replaces the catalytic converter and is only intended for track use.

***edit*** If you want to stay emissions legal then a High flow cat would be what you want (not a mid pipe). Gains are not as significant though...

Short Term goals are to just increase acceleration a bit, and make it sound a bit better. But really, I love just driving my car and want it running at it's best performance possible but not with crazy modifications (if that makes any sense). I want a smooth running car that I can have fun around the corners and going on the highway with.
Long Term is to take it to a drag strip and have everyone in aw that a Mazda with a 1.3L just kicked the crap out of the tubbed Mustang. But then again the later may be a dream instead of a goal lol.

I would also point out that some mods may fit better some circumstances than others. Think about ring and pinions, clutches etc. They are a waste of money for some uses but may be useful for others.

Thinking about the engine, and not about other drivetrain parts i think that a good starting point to see some benefits might be a midpipe\sports catalyzer (depending on your emission laws etc.. i personally don't care ), airbox baffles removal, upgraded coils and accessport.
Depending on your mileage then you might want to look at your fuel pump's sock or entire fuel pump assembly but there we are more into the maintenance needs of a car. If your car is poorly serviced even thoroughly cleaning your maf\iat setup and throttle body might help!

It's good to see a new member politely asking something, welcome on board!

Wow, bunch easier on me (and my wallet) than I thought, and the more I look at that Accessport, the more it's a sure thing or a "must have' of sorts. Going to go searching for a knowledgable shop in Richmond now to see if they'll do a run over on my car to show me what I need to start thinking about because as we all know text can only get you so far before I actually need to get off of my *** and into a shop. I'm still waiting for a reply that says something like "You need to search the boards instead of clogging up the site" so if someone would reply with something like that it'd be much appreciated. I don't want to feel left out.

Save up a couple grand first unless you already have the funds. Anyway, get a midpipe, I could care less if it was intended for track use only considering plenty of people have it anyway. A-Port from Mazda Maniac, Racing beat or Progressive front/rear sways, coilovers(what ever floats your boat, tein, kw variant, BC racing, JIC, etc. Upgrade tires and get lighter wheels. Don't forget BHR products, I would get their ignition kit. Cold air intake if you must. You don't need to over do it with the exhaust. If you are running low on cash then wait and save. Start with midpipe, MM A-port but even that alone is $730 but still great to have. If not, Get the midpipe(Racing Beat for me), F/R sways, BHR igntion, lowering springs(these are not really needed. So as you can see there are various ways to go about this situation. Personally I would save up some more so you are not wasting money because you want something right away. The site is to assist you and I'm sure the ideas on here are enough to do your own build LOL.

One more thing, what are you planning on doing with the car unless it's just a daily driver for now. Some people can be ******** and some people are just being funny and joking around because everyone else is doing it. Don't worry about people telling you to go search, I mean its not that hard to search, lol.

Good Luck
-Brandon

I think that's a wonderful idea PDX, who do we need to talk to for that? I mean, anyone could sucker me in if all they did was bundled it. They could even overcharge me for it, it's just convienient... I mean, I'd need a discount for it...
