There were some doubters - but many of us believed you (and others) however & are now getting the benefits. I now totally believe the before & after dyno that Whenson did & got some stick over .

Someone should test this mod in combination with Mazsports cooling fan thing & report on if A/C is improved .
Suggested it in the other thread but as usual there were the doubters.

I to would be a doubter, the cooling fans on the oil coolers would not affect the A/C compressor.

the reason the A/C does not blow as cold with the new pulleys is due to the compressor not spinnign fast enough at idle to cool the freon. when the eninge is at a higher cruising speed it IS spinning fast enough to cool. hence the reason the A/C blows warmer at idle.

fans on the oil cooler will not change the rate at which the A/C compressor spins.

EDIT: now that I might have made my self look like an ***, you guys were refering to the mini fans on the oil coolers right? if not..... sorry for the long responce for no reason.

EDIT again: I see that you were not talking about the oil cooler fans, you were talking about loweing the on temprature of the cooling fans. this to would only help minutly. if engine temps go down, engine bay temps go down a little, there for the cold freon has less heat to heat it on the way to the cabin. still I dont see this making a big differance (as with the oil cooler fans)

the only thing I see making a big enough differance for the A/C would be wraping the A/C lines with heat sheild to protect the cold lines from the hot engine bay temps.

none the less I would still like to hear someone that has results then me just saying it wont make a big differance.

Think about this - you are cruising along normally and not stressing the engine so your fans are off - you then stop at a light & because your A/C pulley is turning so slow you lose A/C efficiency. However - your coolant temp goes up at idle without the fans running . With the cooling mod your fans come on pretty much straight away . Now you have lots of air flow through the A/C condensor - so your A/C pump does not have to pump as hard to get the same cooling you used to have before you put the UD pulley on .
All theory I know - someone test it please

he he he, hey I said it would help a little (Minutly was my chice of words) but I personally dont see it making enough of a differance to make it all that noticable.

now as for the mod it's self... I am always down for cooler runnign tempratures. I am not saying the mod is not worth it. i am saying I doubt it would be worth it for A/C reasons.

das all ima sayin
:D

I like what someone else said above. you got to pay the price to play. if A/C is THAT important to you (which to my fat *** it is) then dont get pulleys, it does not make that big of a differance anyways. but if my fat sweaty butt can handle the heat for the minute or so you are at a stop light, then so can anyone.

So you should get the mod for the better cooling - then tell us if it helps with the AC

I would do it myself but we hardly need A/C here so it is not an issue for me.

Just had another thought - in a lot of cars the fans turn on as soon as you turn the A/C on . Must have a look & see what happens with our car .

he he he, yeah I should. it's freakin hot here!

yeah some cars do.... I dont knwo if ours does or not. I want to say no because I dont remember ever hearing the fans turn on when I turn the A/C on..... but I could be wrong there. I would be more suprised if they did not...... hmmmm..... I duno.

Had to check this out
What happens is that when you turn A/C on - one of the fans cycles on and off at low speed. So - unless you reach the point that coolant temp switches both fans on full your A/C is going to be pretty feeble at idle with the UD pulley on.
I really think the Mazsport mod will solve this problem - someone prove me wrong !
Of course - you could end up draining your battery ...........

Talking of the battery, I know everyone said so far there is no problem with the battery if you have the agency power pulley on, but.
I still keep on thinking that if you underdrive 20% for the same rpm's you will have less charge available from the alternator, if you have ac on and the fans are on and driving at night with the lights on, radio on, wont it drain more from the battery than what the alternator can supply with the reduced running speed due to the pulleys 20% underdriving.
Meaning at the end your battery wastes quickly.
Then in the morning the car feel more sluggish due to the battery being more dead, needing more charge so the alternator works hard thus needing to draw more current to get the battery full, all the power saved by underdriving is now reduced to get the battery up again.I suppose this will only be for a while until charged enough.
I would feel more comfortable with 10 - 15% underdriving, but if no one had any meaning any charging or fast battery drain problems then it means 20% is still within that limit to charge enough.
I am not shooting it down, I actually also want a other pulley that will be a agency power (although it will cost me an arm and leg from here in SA)

Are everyone ok with the charging / battery life side so far

Chears

Philip

if someone has some further comments or expierience then please pm me if you want

Again I still belive that the differance in underhood temps effect on the A/C is going to be very minor. turning the fans on will not change the cycle or speed of the A/C compressor.

- but it will dramatically improve the airflow past the A/C condenser at idle .

if your that worried about draining your battery than just buy a Optima Yellow Top

The things are deep cycle, I used to have 2 15" L7's attached to that battery with a 180 amp alternator as backup.

I too plan on getting this Agency Power underdrive pulley (and later installing a subwoofer, 200-400 watt range). I have to admit even with stock pulleys, when my car idles I can see a difference in light brightness... But before I get this pulley I will get an Optima Yellow Top, the thing I'm sure pulls out twice the cranking amps as our stock batteries... And Deep Cycle means it'll last a while before the Voltage drops

I measured a 1 volt drop with the agency power at idle. I was hitting 13.* volts at idle with stock and with the AP I get 12.* at idle.

hmmm -not sure of before , but I get 14.3v at idle now (using scanalyser).
Probably should be measuring amps to really see what is going on.

This is true, I think we are both right. It will make a little differance, but not all THAT much.

here a couple months ago we had 100+ degree days, there is no way both fans were not running at idle at a stop light. I mean it was FREAKIN hot out side. the A/C was like it was not even on when sitting at an idle with the underdrive pulleys. I really beleive the compressor just does not spin fast enough at idle.

but hey, I have been wrong before

we really need someone to just try it out and let us know .

never gets much over 86 here - mostly around 75 in summer - not a problem for me

Seems like the Agency Pulley is the best bet.

1. Anybody have the Agency Pulley and cooling fan control kit mod ( http://www.mazsport.net/store/page9.html )? Does the cooling fan mod help?

2. Can anybody confirm the Agency Pulley HP gain results? Is it just HP or is the engine spinning up faster and thus more responsive?

3. For people with the Agency Pulley, do you feel the rumored bad AC at idle or battery drain is a problem? Is the AC or battery drain true or just rumors?

There was a lot of talk "around" the subjects that I asked, but not specific answers by owners with the equipment, regarding the questions I asked above.

1 we don't know yet
2 Yes - search "whenson"
3 AC - will it be a problem for YOU if you have poor AC at idle ? Battery - no reports of any problems yet - just don't expect to run a big amp or any other high drain device.

i dont notice any... BUT when i have have the AC or heat blasting and i slip it into gear you can hear the fans or whatever they are get weaker...

does anyone know if the AP pullies can effect your mpg? cuz........... i think i lost 1-3mpg......

I thought the Speedsource pulleys deleted the air conditioner.

If that something you don't use I suppose you could go for it.
