Smile Pulley Kit!

Does anybody have a pulley kit in there rx-8? I did some researches on the greddy,aem,Unorthodox Racing racing kits. Does anybody has any of those or know if the HP increase is a big different?

There isn't a gain until the engine hits 4k RPMs and up that is where the Dyno's show it and that is where I feel the difference.

the ur pulleys gives good gains for the money. sr aem and greddy dont do ****. get the ur and u be happy

I have the SR Motorsports pullies on my RX-8. If you must get Pullies, I would suggest UR ones and save yourself a couple of hundred dollars.

On a regular piston car these work just fine because they have a heavy harmonic balancer. The RX-8 does not. Reducing weight on the crank shaft increases HP to the rear wheels...or reduces inefficiencies that reduce HP from the Rear Wheels. A standard harmonic balance on my 1992 300zx must have weighed ~ 22lbs and I replaced that with an aluminum unit that weighed ~ 4 lbs or so. That is where the performance gain is to be had. RX8's underdrive crank pulley must weight ~ 1.25lb stock.

I did not feel any change with them installed.

how about the new pulley out(just one not the whole set) that reduces the drive by 20% --think it is $160 dollors or something like that--since its the underive that gives you the benefit? then doesnt that make more sense?

Still freakin' worthless. But if you want to waste your money go for it. I would just save up a bit more & buy either the CAI or a RP Supercat.

In regards to your underdrive question OD, I have the SR units & they claim about a 15% underdrive (& +12 hp) & we got 1-2 hp on the dyno across the rev range.

Silver, instead of buying a new intake system and Underdrive pulley set, I would suggets just getting an aluminum flywheel...from Racing Beat or the ACT Pro-lite one.......it would give you the best acceleration gain for an NA and probably cost close to the same as the two mods (Intake and Pullies) that your are thinking about.

Yeah, the flywheel is a fun part to have. Just realize it is much more difficult to put in, or if you are hiring someone it will cost more in installation labor. Not sure of your mechanical skill, but I can usually change the fluids in my car, the intake swap is pretty easy, and the hi-flow cat installation would take about 30 min. at a muffler shop. The flywheel works well, but in corporates you dropping the transmission, and having a flywheel puller, and is not something I would do in my driveway that is for sure. Unless you have a pretty significant mechanical backround I wouldn't try it.

Your gains will not be immediate - the ECU needs to learn the new mod first. It takes 5-7 days according to UR.

a good way to help speed up the pcm relearn is to clear the NV RAM. and hp is just one of the benefits of lightweight and underdriven pullies. the water pump pulley is benefitted with this instal bc it is lighter. the stock water pump pulley may have flow problems at high rpm. any questions, look up the word "cavitation" for reference. lighter water pulley helps resist cavitation and helps flow better at high rpm where the flow is needed the most. i read all about it when "Turbo and high tech performance" mag did a review of it. they dyno'd it and got 11 whp from it AFTER the pcm relearned itself. i personally know that clearing the NV RAM speeds up the process bc it clears the Eccentric Shaft position to where the new "crank" pulley has it set at.

Basically all Turbo magazine did was put up UR's dyno plot. I would rather wait for some of the posters on here to put up "real" independent dynos. Or have RX Tuner do it. Turbo magazine has been known in the past for just re-posting vendor dynos on some of their tests (not all). RX Tuner did this swap (along with the UR flywheel), but was not able to test the car afterwars, just commented that driveability was a bit better.

Yea mine as well get those UR pulley's now(Polish silver) that looks nice. Now I'm also intrested in the flywheel i heard it's worth every penny. I wanna know which flywheels do you guys perfer or have let me know thanks

I have Greddy pulley set, water pump and alternator only, nothing more than a little revving, but i bought them very cheap so i didn't care.
Now i will swap to a complete set made by SCOOT SPORTS, very rare product, if i make it. It is the second set that SCOOT makes because the first was only race oriented. It would kill all electricals down low. So the new design is more streetable. if you have any acquaintances that can supply you with SCOOT products, go for it. I can't really, i only get one set.

I have the SR Motorsports unit, got a really good deal on it, but was ready to buy the RB unit. The ACT streetlite & prolite units are quite good as well, and UR also makes a unit, and it has an integrated counterweight. Mazdaspeed's unit isn't much lighter than stock, but the weight is more centered. Overall, I think they are all good units. None of them are a quantum leap over the others.
