Product reveiw:Flex Innovations grounding kit.
Flex Innovations grounding kit. Aside from the prototype I am the first RX8 with this kit and I must say I am impressed. It has made my idle solid as hell, no more dips when the a/c or heater turns on, no dimming lights. The throttle responds doesn't seem faster but certainly more solid feeling. I have only had one tank of gas through the car thus far but I did have a 1 mpg increase in mileage. (not bad for some wires) They use gold terminals and true 8 ga. wire and comes in a wide selection of colors. I went with the black with white pattern, this particular wire is fire retardant. But all the wires are extremely heat resistant. Very simple install comes with color pictures which makes it very easy to do in 15-20 with basic hand tools. Here are a few pics of the kit installed.

All in all not a bad deal IMO. check them out, Flex Innovations, ask for Tom or Chris. Thanks, Bose. |
Any chance for bigger pics?
fixed.

Looks awesome. How do we get our hands on it? Also, does this no longer enable us to use the battery cover or not? Just curious.
flex innovations.com the site says 40+5 for shipping, but I was told 35 shipped. I will email him tonight and should have a response on it by morning.
You still can use the battery cover, I do. Just didn't put a pic up cause mine was being painted. |
Gotcha. Well def let me know. $35 shipped is a friggen steal. Looks fine to me. Don't need a fancy smancy thing for ground..they're just wires. lol. If I knew how, I'd make my own!
Thanks a million bose. :D |
Im in for 35 shipped
ill order immediately if its 35 but ill still buy at 45
Clean Look!
this is especially helpful if you have a larger stereo. solid grounds can have a drastic effect on light dimming. I did it in my grand prix with 4awg wire and plan to do it on my 8 eventually. $45 isn't a bad price to have a kit in hand. It would run you a little less than that to buy the parts and DIY, but then you'd have to do the work. Seems worth it to buy from them.
Put me in for one also.International buyer.
For $35, i've got my CC ready. I emailed them. I want mine asap!!!
does it only come in black? i know wierd question.. i may want it
No, they come in a bunch of colors. check their website.
Bose, any luck finding out how we get it for $35?
I just ordered mine for $40.

Alright I just installed mine last night. Well I have to say I am impressed. My 8 has 52,xxxmi on it and I am the second owner for 8,xxxmi of it. I have had electrical problems in the past and I was looking for the grounding kit to smooth everything out. Which is did.
On to the pics! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/DSCN1763.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/DSCN1764.jpg Battery, Alternator, and Throttle Body connections http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/DSCN1765.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/DSCN1768.jpg Throttle Body and Alternator http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/DSCN1769.jpg 2 Body Grounds http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/DSCN1770.jpg ^^Again http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/DSCN1771.jpg Everything from the Passenger Side http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...8/DSCN1775.jpg Everything covered again Now I just filled up last night (For 1.99/gal for 93 Octane WIN!!), I'll see if i get a mpg boost. But i doubt it...sine I'ma be running the car a little harder now  I'd recommend this product for anyone who wishes to add 4 more grounds to the factory grounds; to any one who wishes to effectively and inexpensively stabilize their electrical system. Flex Innovations = High Quality; Period. |
what about the grounding points on the drivers side fender?

What would be the purpose of that anyways? Is it really nessicary? If so they would've included it in the kit, no?
^^ True. I still stand firm in believing that the 4 additional locations are great spots for a ground.
If your very anal about it, get a multimeter and start searching the engine bay for grounds. Check this out if you wanna go searching for grounds. |
Noob time; What does it do? :o

Answer in my blog. -_-;;
i want a kit now
I thought I would share with you guys, I was checking out the mazda 3 big 3 wire cause i was currious, what it is, 4ga wires that grounds the Engine, Chassis, Battery Negative, and also adds to Positive Alternator . Anyways I asked if they were going to have something like that for the 8 and they said yes. It will be up for sale in a couple of weeks.
so does tat mean we just bought this kit for nothing?
whats the difference?

If you're that worried about it, go buy some 4 gauge insulated wire and some gold ring terminals and slap them in there. Of course you could have done that in the first place too. |
lol thats not the point..Point is.. is it better then what we just bought and why?

Looks like a good cable kit.
The Big 3 kit is mainly for users with big sound systems who want the additional grounds. It's not necessarily better just more insurance for those who have a higher power demand.
Well from altspace's pic I don't see a Throttle Body ground, or a alternator, nor the 2 OEM grounds on the passenger side.
Well do you know the quality of the 4ga wires? These 8ga wires are not messing around. Also what are those cables shielded with? I know the Flex kit has got some crazy heat resistant shielding. The only thing that would possibly make it better would be the addition of more grounds...but then again idk of more spots. If i have time this weekend, i'll break out the multimeter and go hunting. |
heres what i got from them,
Big3, adds alternator POWER wire with a fuse. It also uses 4ga wire instead of 8ga and connects the engine block to the chassis, and battery negative to the same spot. BIG3 is more for car audio people. Grounding kit is a drive ability mod. |
So what your saying is that if i wanted my stock speakers to perform better...i should get some 4ga wire and go play?
Well its mainly for people who have big sound systems in their car. Im thinking of getting this when it comes out because i have subs in the car, and thinking of adding another amp and speakers.
I wanted driveability so I guess I'm good.

Flex Innovations = High Quality; Period. Seriously though ordered mine in the diamond black on 9 dec. Looks like it might take a few more days to get here with all the rain. Talked to a guy at ups yesterday and he told me a lot of trucks are going to be 1 day behind:banghead: |
Well after having is installed for almost a week, I like it!
I find that my mpg hasn't gone up or down (I have a mix of highway and city driving and very short distance driving). But I can say that my car seems to perform better @ high rpms. As I stated on my first post on this thread, my 8 has had some electrical problems in the past. Now, everything is running smoothly. Flex FTW. |
