Power mods - bang for buck what to do

I'm going to be getting a used 05 or 06 RX8. 6 speed.

I am planning my budget so I have enough cash left on hand to buy some mods and get them installed.

I know the RX8 is not going to transform into some rocket ship by bolting on an exhaust or something... but I do want to try and get a bit more performance, and make the car more fun to drive.

i don't plan to go FI. just bolt on stuff.

the stuff I am considering is:

flywheel, exhaust, intake, short shifter

for thsoe of you who have already gone down the mod road- which of these mods will give me the most bang for my buck?

will i really notice much of a difference after doing these mods? i know it's not like the car will go from a 14.5 second quarter to a 13.5 or anyting ridiculous like that.

but for driving around on a twisty road, and running through the gears - will a cat back or intake *really* make the car feel any faster or does it just sound louder?

also, can you guys with flywheels feel that it's different?

i have a pretty sensitive butt dyno and when i Put aftermarket exhaust/header on my old Miata I could feel the difference...it was minimall... i think it probably picked up 5-10hp max..nothing major...but it was noticeable.

i once put an intake on a prelude SH. everythign else was stock. i could osrt of notice a small gain in power ONLY when I was approachign redline..it revved up a bit freeer..i liked it...for the $250 i spent it was fun...and i could feel it...but i'm sure if i ran 3 1/4 miles before the install, and 3 after, the difference might not even be detectible...but i COULD feel it...it was just really really minor.

is that the kind of gain i'm gona get.... or would it be more?

Best bang for the buck?

Probably nitrous. A fifty shot is pretty strong, and you're only a couple hundred in... more like 500-600 in...

After you purchase an intake, exhaust, flywheel, header, pulleys, blah blah blah.. you're will into the thousands, and not to far from at least the Greddy kit.

exhaust and intake will only make it louder. You MIGHT get 2 or 3 at the wheels if you are lucky. Flywheel I'm not sure about but if I had to guess maybe 10? Don't know. That's a lot of money to waste for very little rwhp.

is nitrous safe on an rx8?

i know it's cheap power...but i have NO knowledge of it other than the basic chemistry of why it works... but what about blowing up the motor?

if you get it professionally installed and do a 50 shot, it won't blow?

would an rx8 with a 50 shot outrun an s2k?

if you are already worried about outrunning an s2k and you haven't bought an rx8 yet... go to s2ki and introduce yourself cus that car suites you better.

i have all the mods except nitrous. it does help.

but if you want big cheap power that you can really feel. what charles says is the way to go..

and as he said, if taja has not blown it up it is idiot proof..

I liked the slightly better powe of the s2k, but I like the smoothness, and the versatility of the 8 better.

my ideal car would be a slightly modded 8. I lke a vert, but it's not what I gotta have.

i think an RX8 with some slightly upgraded suspension, like shocks/springs and stifer sway bars, strut bars would probalby make an 8 handle AS wel or BETTER than stock s2k.

then flywheel, or something ont he 8 to get a bit mroe zip out of it and I'd be one happy camper.

i think the 8s wtih teh appearance package, LOWERED, look FAR better than the s2k. that's just me.

with the new lightweight clutch& flywheel combo that BHR is coming out with, I would wait for that before wasting my money on a heavy clutch setup to go on an expensive lightweight flywheel.

A flywheel made a lot more difference than I was expecting.

Dunno if an AP pulley makes any noticeable difference, but hey its really cheap....

Why? Its possible and i've done it. It's not the best car for a straight line but it holds its own.

I honestly think RX-8 > S2000 for me because of just overall comfort. RX-8 is nicer inside, bigger, and with a much nicer sound system (bose). Its also cheaper and its not really so SLOW like everyone makes it seem.

The RX-8 is definitely more comfortable with stock suspension.

I like the Short-shifter, Flywheel upgrade, and suspension upgrade.

I disagree with that, our stock tires SUCK! Change that and our car will handle as well as an S2K IMO. My friend with an s2k drove my rx8 on the track, and he said entry speeds on the rx8 was faster. But he has his top down, I think that makes a diffrence
