Petit Raceing PCM-AN Recal Kit w/ EFI Dude Logger device
Guess this is the equivalent to the Access Port but can any one give any feedback on this device? Thinking about buying is a bit pricey (599) but they state 11 to 14 % power and torque gains.......Anybody???

No the ANP kit is a combination of a catback + optional hiflow cat and K&N panel filter (or intake system) combined with an EFIdude logger /reflasher.
Pettit say that just doing a reflash alone is fairly pointless.
Their reflash adjusts the fuel mapping a little for some more power, and add increased high load oil injection and turns on the fans earlier too.

Hehe, true...., I guess you can get the "added benefits" but most people want a bit of performance too.
It all depends on how people want to spend money....

Do you think that something like that is worth it then? I had been looking at superchargers especially theirs for quite some time considering I feel like it would be the best FI to do with the Renesis. Would something like that work on a stock car or would you need to add the supercharger also?
Thanks in advance.

You're correct, there are a few assumptions there.
I'm still surprised people are trying to find an "equivalent" to the accessPORT. There is not any flasher device for the RX8 that has the robust nature of the AP for the cost.
An equivalent to the accessPORT would be a stand alone management system but would cost double, tripple, or more than the accessPORT unit. Much of the stand alone technology is also seriously older hardware than the RX8 PCM which is a powerful device.
And pricey? I think you need to shop around for what the costs of other tuning hardware is. Almost all of the good stuff starts above $1,000 and then you need to wire it into the car and find someone who can tune the car for you unless you want to do it yourself.
The only thing better than the AP is a device that tunes the car itself. Everything else either provides much less function and robustness or greatly exceeds the cost of the AP.

The advantage of a "proper" stand-alone over the AP is that for a pure performance application (no emissions) you can tune in the engine more readily because all the OE software hocus pocus anomalies are eliminated. Proper as in MoTeC, but it requires some other supporting changes such as switching to an FD3 alternator etc. Changing to the S2 4-injector lower intake manifold further simplifies the process. The disadvantage as you mentioned is the cost, which is way more than triple, or even triple-triple, in that case The never ending compromise of life ...

Exactly. Stand alone systems offer an amount of customization and even information gathering that is WAY beyond what the accessPORT will provide. I've not worked with MoTec systems at all but had an opportunity to observe the setup on Chris Rado's time attack Scion and the amount of data that could be gathered from the car's logs was staggering.
But naturally that all comes at a high cost and also requires extensive experience with both the setup and execution of the hardware. It's one of those "...if you have to ask" things.
I feel like I'm beating a dead horse with this but I just have a hard time understanding the mindset that there is going to be something just as good out there for the cost when there are probably hundreds of pages devoted to the accessPORT on this site.
I know there are individuals who have gone with other products either because they feel they have to be different or to spite Mazdamaniac for one reason or another.
Even the thread that popped up about installing the Megasquirt on an RX8...it baffles me to spend all that money and time to produce a result that is either the same or less than what can be achieved with the AP. The attitude doesn't seem to be an intent on learning but instead to reinvent the wheel. Engine swaps or radical changes to the car I can understand but still...
I approach everything in this community from the perspective of cost vs. benefit since 99% of BHR's customers do the same as have I when it comes to performance modifications. I just don't understand spending more to get the same or less.

From what I've read on here and the way that I understand the Renesis to work Turbos can build up a lot of back pressure that can blow out the side exhaust ports if not tuned properly.
I do want to know more about FI. If I were to ever do it, I'd want to do it the best and most reliable way, so if you have any advice, I'd appreciate it.

to answer your question Demifiend, the ANP reflash device is the same tool Pettit use to reflash the cars using their supercharger kit, so you could in theory use it for an NA reflash, then if you got the supercharger kit later, you would already have a bit of it....
as for turbos v superchargers, its one thing that goes back and forth a lot, with 1% useful info and 99% spurious reasoning, flaming & insults on every thread with it in usually..... 8(

more often than not it has nothing to do with MM, just like the way people still can't follow the instructions about how to follow the instructions for following the instructions ...
if I had wanted to really pop his bubble I would have told him that I've seen unported motor dynos that bury the ported RB dyno sheet ...

I was enjoying the banter about the various ways to calibrate the PCM and then it appeared it was going toward a "puffer" discussion. Jeff knows I don't how to properly tune my own PCM but that does not keep me from being interested in how others do it and the different ways to do it.
