Lightbulb Open Exhaust??

Has anyone ever disconnect the factory exhaust after the cat, or put one of the electronic flanges that open and close the exhaust?? Would it help with horsepower?? Hurt horsepower?? Throw cel lights?? Or just sound bad ***??
Has anyone ever tried this b4??

I doubt you'll get any power that you'll feel.. if you get any. But I'm sure that it'll be uber loud.

just wondering, was thinking about doing it to see how it would sound. just wanted to see if anyone ever did it b4. Doesn't matter if any power is gained, just so power isn't lost or cel issues. i bet it would sound like a f1 car

however loud you think it is, imagine it 10x that loud. Rotaries are insane with no exhaust.

I dont know if it would hurt the car, but I talked to the guys who last dyno'd my car & they disconnected the exhaust from the header back & then dyno'd it. They said they saw 201whp, which is up from the 193whp w/ the stock cat & Agency Power exhaust. They also said when they were done, their ears were ringing..

As long as the lack of back pressure wouldn't hurt the motor with cel and loss of power i would love to do to hear what it would sound like. Thats y i would want the electronic flange, to open it and close when racing or just wanting to wake my buddies up at 4 am. lol

it will not hurt the car before or after the cat. it may throw a cel if before the cat but its just telling u ur cat aint workin. the problem is how rediculously loud it would b. as well as finding a good cutout that will not leak when its supposed to be closed...
if u did find a good one and u can deal with the sound. u will definately see a difference especialy if u have supporting mods....

I was in the middle of installing an exhaust, I didn't drive it. It is way too loud, I do not wish to give the cops a reason to pull me over. Since the cat is still on the car you will not get any CEL. There are no sensors aft of the CAT. You might want to do something similar to this member https://www.rx8club.com/west-rx-8-forum-34/custom-exhaust-finished-126195/

Some autox guys put a turn down immediately after the cat. They don't do it for hp, though, since it likely doesn't do anything. Instead, they all do it for weight.

I personally have a straight pipe from the cat back, and its loud enough to wake all my neighbors up, but bearable enough that I daily drive it. And as the posts above suggest, no CEL.
