I'm showing 15 lbs for the RE header too, I think there is some weight in the main flange that can be removed, but IMO to get all the weight out you'd really need to remove the machined secondary air bar stock plate and use small diameter light gauge tubing for it instead. I think lighter gauge exhaust pipe tubing and the V-flange will be worth maybe 2 - 2.5 lbs in a similar configuration

I'm now even contemplating this, it would be significantly lighter still, I'm thinking at least half the weight of the aftermarket headers, basically duplicating the OE manifold for minimum weight:

I am in discussion with a fabricator who specializes in header work as you suggest, it's just too premature to discuss publicly at this point, not sure if it will prove feasible so I'd rather not get anyone's hopes up

Any chance you can loan me your OE manifold for a bit?

but he didn't do any tuning, it's possible that making tuning adjustments for it may or may not change the results

Hmm, well this is a dissapointment.. I was really looking forward to this product. I figured for about 280 bucks, a header that would have givin 3-4 hp would have bin kinda nice..

But that's obviously not always the case.

Toca Btw iv never seen the Rmagic or Feed headers?!? how is the design different? and how much whp are they claiming?

feed said 16 whp for the exhaust tune so i figure about 12 whp for that exhaust and cat pipe and 4 whp for the header that my guess this is with out there ecu tune. they said this was the power just by bolting al 3 up. r magic claiming r magic claiming 5- 6 ps

May be an old question--but has there been any OWNER before/after dyno's showing any gain with any header or highflow cat/midpipe ? I may have missed them but I haven't seen any. Even with the RP high flow cat. It seems some are getting some results with Turboxs midpipe(without cat) and cat back system(that system is too loud for me)--but that is all I have seen. Comments?

Sorry for the Hijack, but to answer OD....

If you can wait until this summer, I will dyno test and tune the Feed version 2 header. I'm not waiting for the header theory on this board to produce a demo product.

have they gotten the price list up on the site yet, or will it not be available until this summer.

I agree with you. I have never seen any of the above chart gains by users without the help of a manufaturer's install; however, I will have to disagree that this header (OBX) is without worth. I dont have proof (and you're not going to get it), but I have made several back and forth changes to my exhaust recently. The big plus has to go to a catless midpipe. This you can feel. A second gain appears to be had with the midpipe plus this header about midway through the rpm range. At around this range you can hear a smooth harmonic that disappears in the higher rpm range that seems associated with gains. unfortunatelly, this gain (and the associated harmonic) disappears when the cat goes back on.

It is possible that the header itself does nothing if the exhaust then runs into a restriction like the cat, but add a catless midpipe to the header and you might get gains (area under the curve) over and above what you see with the midpipe alone.

i will add the disclaimer that butt dynos lie, hence this is opinion and speculation.

I agree carbonrx8--catless midpipe may show some gains--however for the majority going catless is not an option(either laws or the loudness). So for those in that group buy an aftermarket exhaust option for the sound you like Dont expect any great gains----yet. Thta dang shared middle port

There is nothing about the Feed or R Magic headers that is magically going to produce power where the other's haven't. The OBX is not a perfect header, but it isn't all that bad either. I've done a detailed inspection on one. Cosmetic appearance doesn't define performance and the looks of the other headers is all you have to go on.

The only really different header is the KnightSport, which keeps the flow of the center port split into two smaller tubes, with four tubes joining at the collector instead of three. It's been tested by knowledgable people and didn't turn out any better numbers than what you've already seen and heard here, again just bolted on without tuning. Tuning is going to be the only way to see a benefit, and the OE manifold can perform better with tuning too.

So it all really comes back to whether or not the Renesis can really benefit from a tube header at all. It would have been easy HP for Mazda if that was the case. Most cars have them now just for efficiency purposes. A well designed manifold similar to OE with some flow work may perform just as well or better on the Renesis, without the complication or cost. The only way to know for sure is to get on the dyno with a bunch of different designs and go at it. Applying generalized theory to a picture on the website or magazine won't cut it.

I can tell you without a doubt that's not how all those other header designs were developed. It's clear that they just took the tube for the furthest port and ran it as directly as possible to the collector, and then tried to make the other tubes a similar length by piping them around. Maybe at best they tried different diameter tubes, but that's about it.

that's not how I saw it, IMO you claimed they were superior because of the design difference appearances. The RE header is a very high quality piece, better than OBX, but just bolted on it doesn't perform any noticable amount better, the only thing you get for the additional $1000 is non-CARB emission legality

Hmmm, all very interesting.

I'm going to be running, once my midpipe gets here, the OBX header, RX8Store.net catless/resonated 3" midpipe, and RX8Store.net 3" catback. It'll be fun to see what it's like to do all of this at once, straight from stock exhaust to all of that.

dDuB - are you going to use a piggyback CZ to tune the setup?

Probably not unless I find a deal I can't pass up. IMO piggy backs are dumb, I'd prefer full standalone, and just leave the stock ecu to control the manifold BS.

Except I bought my piggyback for dirt cheap as compared to $1000+

Here are my latest dyno results
