OBX-ARRRRH!!!! The Exhaust for Pirates is reviewed.
#152
i decided to remove my driveshaft heat shield.... touched the exhaust and drove me mad. also, might wanna cut about 2" out of the hanger at the rear diff, and weld it back with the end on it... cause it digs into the diff. thinking about a quick cutout installed right at the muffler connection, to dump straight down... cause it sounds SOOO nice without a muffler , at least with the stock cat still there.
you know you need to install the dents and scratches to get the required exhaust note.

Did we ever determine a difference between the regular OBX and the OBX Pro? They are the same price on ebay, so I'll just order the pro. I didn't know if there was a difference.
Thanks to everyone for posting this info up. I'm getting my 8 tomorrow and an exhaust is first on my list, other than clear corner lenses (stupid amber). I've always been a huge fan of Borla, but this system is sounding like one hell of a deal!

RESURRECTION!!!
I've been riding with the OBX Pro for about 1.5 years now. This really is a quality exhaust system. This is a HUGE statement from me, as I have only owned Borla exhausts and have very high standards as a result. After this time, the exhaust still looks amazing (I polish it with Mothers on a regular basis) and all welds are holding perfectly. I did have to cut the hanger with a Dremmel tool, as it rattled against the rear differential. That was the ONLY fitment issue and an easy fix. The sound is great. It's really tame, at times a little too tame for me under normal driving conditions and at idle. I sometimes desire a little louder exhaust but, after hearing a lot of other exhausts out there, I'd rather have it be on this side than the over-the-top side I've heard so many times. Under WOT, the exhaust sounds AMAZING. It has a deep, classy import bass tone without ever sounding raspy. This exhaust allows you to maintain the more mature and refined charecteristics of the RX-8, instead of sounding like you threw a fart can on another import. It makes my car still feel expensive and refined. I don't know if there is a sound difference between the Pro and the regular, but I'm very satisfied with the Pro. I will try to post at least pics in the next few days. I will also work on a video, but no promises.
My only other complaint of the OBX (other than the minor rattle at the dif) is how terrible it sounded when I added a cat-delete pipe. It was pure insanity and sounded absolutely terrible. I quickly restored the cat and am considering a dual-resonating high flow cat instead. The Pro exhaust has an extra resonating chamber mounted just before the muffler, which I assume helps to keep the sound more quite. I've often contemplated removing that chamber and capping it, but am hesitant because I don't know what it will do to the sound. That, to me, seems to be the difference between the Pro and the regular exhaust. Any thoughts?

I'm sorry, bro. I didn't even see your post between mine. It's a 3" non-resonated midpipe. It was terribly raspy and made the exhaust sound cheap. It really sounded like the worst exhaust system I've ever heard. I might as well have been running a straight pipe from the headers. I'm hoping a high flow cat sounds better with the system, but it sounds really nice with the stock cat.

My buddy said I shot flames when I was leaving his house. I had the ap midpipe and obx cat back.
If you add the AP look out! its loud as all hell. Its also very thin so I think thats why. But yeah I have the ap mid and cat back and let me tell you I shoot flames just about every gear. When I'm driving home at night I see the flashing lights *no not the cops lol* from the exhaust flames. FLAME ON!
Its cool cuz people dont tail gate me anymore. Muhahahahaaa. But at the sametime its not for everyone.

It's been a while, Pup, but that setup is LOUD, LOUD...and not in a good way, IMO. Like I said, adding my midpipe (non-resonated) made this exhaust sound bad for the first time.
Anyone running theirs with a high flow cat? I'm looking into doing this right now, but also considering adding a resonator into the cat pipe. I'd like a little more noise, but I'd also like to maintain the very classy deep tone of the exhaust.
