I believe the rasp is caused by the air pump during warm up.

That pump is very powerful from what I have read.

I think every exhaust for the 8 sounds better after warm up.

N rider89 09-19-2006 09:44 PM

perfect bump for today aaaaarrrrrrrr

Fearsomefatman 09-27-2006 07:41 AM

so to ask again...

how heavy is this thing? 41 lbs? the stock one must be about the same

and will it sound as good with the stock cat?

if I were to get it and remove (plasma cutter way) the nipple that it has on there and simply cover that part with more metal, will it sound a bit better?

supergoat 09-27-2006 09:41 AM

Fearsomefatman, I have no idea. Sorry. :)

After owning it for a few months I'm still very happy with it. Still sounds good, looks good and it has no signs of rust. Hasn't fallen apart either.

I stand by my descision so far to keep it. :)

Why would you want to cut the "nipple" off?

I think it would just make it louder.

dastallion951 11-27-2006 06:19 PM

congrats supergoat on takin a plunge that many stare away from the supposed dreaded EBAY products lol...........all that matters is ur happy with the exhaust......hell for 400 thats pretty good........saw ur vid.........heck that would be a nice place for a car cruise with a bunch of rx8's ..............................

zoomzoom05 04-16-2007 05:12 PM

well i think im about to buy this cat back exhaust..

zoomzoom05 04-24-2007 11:36 PM

the exhaust came today, i got the exhaust on less the hour and 10 min..

it fit perfect all the hanger and all.and it about a 1 1/2 from the heat shied

it not as loud then i was think it was going to be.but it sound nice :ylsuper:

so i guess it a perfect fit for an auto rx8,but i did have to buy bolts,i tried to fine a gasket for it but no one had one to fit it so,i got some high temp sealer.

BoosTED 04-25-2007 12:50 AM

I found that NAPA auto parts has an array of exhaust gaskets that can be used.

They don't have the number in their books for stock yet but if you measure the distance from bolt to bolt and then the diameter of the pipe it is fairly easy to tell which one will do the job. ;)

For aftermarket exhausts this is the best method for finding the correct pre-made gasket to use.

zoomzoom05 04-25-2007 10:40 AM

thanks for letting me know.

also i can get a sound clip if anybody whats (from the back)

VASasha 04-25-2007 12:57 PM

Agreed. Napa is where I got the gasket for this kit at. Once I get this exhaust again(on it's way) I'll hit up Napa for the gasket again.

That makes sense.

I have to admit that I'd be happy to have the OBX catback on my car from the sounds of it.

PerformRX-8 04-26-2007 03:37 PM

sounds pretty good zoomzoom5, this guy i met at starbucks had that exhaust on his car, he revved it and it sounded just like yours, but he told me that there is two OBX's one is just the OBX exhaust and the other is the OBX-R... which do you have?

zoomzoom05 04-26-2007 04:41 PM

thanks..i have the obx-r system

In fact there is another type, mine came last week sealed inside the OBX box but is labeled on the RT tip, as Forza Tuning.

supergoat 07-24-2007 08:18 PM

ok, well the my 04 finally received the same treatment of 05 got by way of a new obx exhaust system. Actually I've had it for a while but finally just opened it up and installed it.

I really do love this exhaust. Cheap, made surprisingly well and sounds like God himself made it.

I did notice that since I ordered the first one, some improvements have been made. Better welds, better construction of the muffler, bigger tips, it's lighter and sounds deeper.

It really is good value for money.

dano 07-29-2007 08:37 PM

Wanted to chime in with my thanks for trying the "unknown" ebay brand. I'm seriously considering this exhaust for my 8. I want a more aggressive sound under throttle (to remind me I'm driving a sports car =). I'm under no illusions that it will give me any HP/torque gain. Looks like for the price it can't be beat.

So yeah, thanks again!

RMZ290 12-06-2007 12:34 PM

How much louder is it? I just want something so the car has a little more tone to it instead of sounding like an econobox, but I don't want to have to have any hassle any time I drive by a cop.

Gish 01-17-2008 11:41 AM

Sorry for the epic bump, but just want to see if other people have this exhaust system, and if so can we get some more clips?

Also, if anybody has bought one recently, do they come with hardware yet? I would have no idea where to get it if it didn't...

romycha1 01-17-2008 11:55 AM

What hardware? I'm pretty sure you would just re-use your old nuts and bolts if it didn't come with any.

Gish 01-17-2008 12:26 PM

Everyone who bought it in this thread talked about buying new hardware and a gasket.

romycha1 01-17-2008 02:31 PM

Hmmm... well, if worst comes to worst.. finding bolts isn't very hard. As for a gasket... the last time I bought an axleback, and I needed a new gasket... I just went to PepBoys with the muffler. The guy there was cool, and just let me take a handful of different ones out there till I found one that fit.

Gish 01-17-2008 10:07 PM

There's got to be somebody out there who has this exhaust...

Gish 01-20-2008 01:37 PM

Nobody else has this exhaust?

RedDragonRX8 02-17-2008 01:40 AM

I bought this exhaust recently and I agree with supergoat. sounds good, good fit, and surprisingly well made. i just took the muffler into napa and they matched up a gasket and hardware. just use the stock hardware for the cat converter.:)

RMZ290 02-17-2008 08:33 AM

Sound clip please? did you purchase it from ebay?

Spinning Sushi 02-17-2008 08:35 AM

Sound clips are in a couple posts back...

Guitarded76 02-17-2008 01:27 PM

OBX ebay cat-back

Mine should be on its way from cali... i'll post a vid soon as it gets here and I put it on... the vid clip sounds really nice, not raspy or tinny. Considering the prices of other exhaust setups, this gets my vote !!! :Eyecrazy:

Mikeluvs8 02-17-2008 05:49 PM

i always liked obx products.

MR.ZOOM ZOOM 02-18-2008 03:35 AM

I HAVE THE OBX HEADERS & EXHAUST THE CAR SOUNDS GREAT, AWESOME PERFORMANCE FOR A CHEAP PRICE........U CANT GO WRONG WITH OBX!!!!!!!

Spinning Sushi 02-18-2008 04:53 AM

I was on ebay and I couldn't find the OBX-R version of the exhaust.

I'd stay away from the headers though.

WHY?

Razz1 02-18-2008 10:30 PM

reported to be bad. Do a search.

BoosTED 02-18-2008 10:47 PM

Hmmm, I never had any issue with my OBX header.

If you are referring to the red hot dyno run that Charley did at Mazcare, I can verify that after running it for a year it did not cause any heat problems with the area around it. :)
