Now Sponsored by K&N ...

I got a call from K&N yesterday and they are going to debut their newly designed intake on our RX-8 at Hot Import Nights here in Kansas City on the 16th. I will get the FIRST intake available. They are going to make a couple this week. They tell me that they redesigned the heat shield and chaged the piping as well as the filter. The main difference is that it's quieter.

I'll keep you all posted and give pics when the intake arrives.

Sorry about that....I just couldn't resist.

On a serious note, do you have any specs on it yet? Also, please let us know your opinion as to performance/sound once it's installed.

Will do. Max assured me that it will deliver at least 9.5 hp.

Just like the first one did right? Or did they miss a decimal point before?

I would guess that it will. He told me that it will be a carbon fiber shelled filter just like the old one, but it will be a cone instead of the huge one we have now.

I'm very curious about this since I'm still debating about buying a REVi. It is interesting though how K&N can develop an intake that 'produces' a significant increase in hp while RB can't.

Wonder if K&N can provide specific dyno charts (before and after) for the RX8 showing this type of increase.......

They tested the new K&N intake on the RX8 recently in one of the import magazines & it got about 3.5 peak hp, about 5-6 throughout the rev range.

Since when is negative feedback or skepticism considered a hi-jack?

Here's some positive feedback.
I added a k&n filter and breather filter to my 8 and I now have +45hp more. Pic of filter here. :D

Just for the record, being given a free intake to test is not the same as being sponsored. When they are willing to give you money and products in turn for having their name on your race car, that is being sponsored. I know a few people that have been beta testers for Racing Beat in the past. This does not make them sponsored by Racing Beat.

Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me. If it wasnt for the garbage they put out early on for the 8, most people wouldn't be so skeptical. Even being a free intake, I probably would have passed on this offer, just for GP.

Ok.

I'm sorry... let me re-phrase this thread just for you. I got a free intake from K&N for letting them use my car in their booth. They paid for my registration and they will be supplying me with parts for all of my cars.

Feel better now?

Yes I did a search also and no-one posted this anywhere.

Some people kill me.

Nice CF!
Must be a typo?
Isn't +4.5hp what you mean?

That is close to what he described to me. We'll see here pretty soon.
